My 1938 Ford Has been in PA since July 2009

The Hamb member first tells me 8 weeks....... Nov 2009

Then he tells me April of 2010..................

Then he states Oct of 2010................

Then I have a local Hamb member visit the Hamb member who is doing the work..............

Local Hamb Member tells me there is still work to be done but states that if it was him that was doing the work it would be about 3-4 more weeks.

Email from the Hamb Member in November 2010...........

    <TABLE border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top>Jeff,
"""""""""" After a lot of thought I have came to the fact that with what was uncovered with the blasting and my lack of communication i am willing to finish the truck by Jan 1 2011 not one day longer! it is going to cost more."""""""""""

I send the Hamb member $600 in November and we settle on $900 more when I pick up the truck in April as I live in Ontario Canada.

April arrives and the truck is not complete and he has no idea when it will be done........

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. First off, hope your health holds and you can hang with us a while yet. Secondly, thanks for your charity work, very comendable. You are definitely a good man for that.

But lastly, sounds like time to just get the truck to somebody else who can get it done for you.

Best of luck and hopefully somebody here can step in and help you get it finished up.

This really seems to be a story thats often told. Ive never been able to figure it out why this happens so often in the body and paint business.

My off topic 68 panel was in body paint shop limbo for 3 years. Its been home ready for assembly now for over a year, but after all the bs, Im just not feeling it anymore.

    I really feel for ya.

not to be the advocate of the devil, but what condition was the truck when you delivered it, removin the old layers of paint will most certainly unveil a lot of unwanted rust/bondo that will have to be dealt w/....of course a straight forward "i dunno when its gonna get finished" from day 1 would have been better.

It matters not what condition the truck was in, they had and agreement then a revised agreement and probably not on paper either. This shit is getting old with body shop guys & painters. Up our way there is a guy that is notrious for quoting one price getting into the job 3/4 of the way and the phone call is made and hyup that will be another 6K thank you. And then the final bill is tallied and guess what it wasn't even close to the re-vised estimate. He has had a minimum of 4 cars over the years that he now owns due to the fact the owners were burned from the get go. This friggin shit has to stop and especialy from members on this site WTF is going on someone needs to put a stop to it. Good luck bud and I hope you get your truck back and thanks to the guys that have offerd to help you out. sorry just venting

The important thing is your health. Kick that cancer's ass! I had some downtime with by brain tumour, the car projects were still here when I got back to them.

Even if he is going through bad times, it is no excuse for giving this guy stories instead of facts about why the truck isn't done. I hope you get your truck back soon and hope you find someone who can help you get it completed and hang tough, sorry to hear of your health issue.

Hope your health improves. Paint and body is the worst part of building. I have one in the garage. Been thru two people already and it is hard to go out and do anything to it. The fire went out.

  15. The very reason I learned to do bodywork and paint was the ever escalating "price" from several local bodyshops, the last one in 1988 was estimated at $1700. and 2 months, that turned into $3800. and 9 months and at the end I had a message on my phone, as I did not call and harrass the guy, that if it was'nt picked up in 48 hours and paid in full, he would start title paperwork! ??? The car looked great but what the ???? I paid it and then went to the paint supply store to start collecting the tools I would need, that simple!

How do we all just seem to lay down and take things like this, and just say go get the truck and be done with the experience. I say F that, call the better business bureau and start taking people like this down. The economy is hard and shit heads need to be taught they are subject to the hard times too. Oh yeah and go get the vehicle too.

Most body shops survive on insurance work, it's fast and mostly just swapping bent parts for new stuff. They take on speciality work for gravy cash and spend the bucks before the work is done, then they figure they are doing the work w/o pay and they is no insurance co. pressing them to get it done or they'll cut them off from future work. I was a service manager for 25 years at a dealer, so I've seen this play-out many times. Sorry that you are having to deal with this while in poor health, if it were me I would go get my truck and cut the losses. I would post this guys name as well to let everyone know who this clown is, 2 years is long enough for his game...

  22. This is a title from an ealier post from 4hawkrod regarding this same issue.

"Trying to locate Ray Daye of Sandy Lake Pa" ...

4hawkrod deleted these (there were at least two) posts because he was having issues then thought the issues had been resolved ... obviously that is NOT the case. As was mentioned before ... get your truck OUT OF THAT SHOP!!!! This person has obviously proven (several times to you) that they are NOT capable or willing to finish your truck ... You want to see your truck again, well then GO GET IT.

(I am not intentionally trying to sound like an ass here, it just comes naturally ... but enough is enough, how much more "proof" do you need before you realize this guy is scamming you?)

Hamb Members thanks for all your input on this. I am not in good enough health to go to PA to get my truck as I am in and out of the Cancer Hospital.

I get an email the other day that says

"""""I am finishing paint that is it you can reassemble it! And after I get my $900 owed you can arrange to pick it up! Plus storage!"""""

I am at a loss for words........ this has been one of the worst Horror stories of my Life.

It would seem that this is another example of how Honesty does not mean anything to most people nowadays. I agree with others on this thread: post the HAMBers name. Get the word out that this HAMBer does not keep his word.

I specifically try to do business with other HAMBers because I trust them. Now that trust has "another nail in the coffin".

    Best Wishes with your health.

Wow storage too? what a drag..

why would you need to pay for storage when he is supposedly "working on it"
isnt he the one driving the schedule?

did you sign anything that stated you needed to pay storage while he "worked" on your project?

well there are 3 sides to this story..would be nice to connect the dots if you get what im saying?

Correspondence from an attorney regarding/estimate overages/storage/non-performance is in order here. And I have no love for attorneys.

I'd accept any help offered here and get your property back or at least in a better place. With your health concerns you sure don't need the stress of this BS. Take care. Your in my prayers.

Storage?? ONLY if he sent you notification that it was done (not the email) He could charge storage from notification to pick up..

I'm on the other side of this... Have a customer truck that has sat for 5yrs.. I ask for parts to finish the truck up... no answer...

I must be doing it wrong.. I agree to a price and stick to it.. havn't ever charge for storage....

And I get lumped up with nuckle heads like this....

Find someone to go get the truck.. Or he'll try to own it :(
