I am shattered!!! My heartfelt condolences to Mary and Bernard and his further family. Joe was not only an amazing drag racer, engine builder, head porting guru but also a gourmet chef who used to be invited to cook in high end restaurants as a guest chef. This is a sad loss of one of my all time heroes.... RIP Joe
This is a real shock. I believe I saw him at Garlits' HOF a few weeks ago. Did he have a heart attack?
Wow. Another of my heroes gone. I beleive he was one of the first to show how to port Ford 429-460 heads. Gave the angles for the valve job too. Condolences to the family.
Prayers sent. Do you have a link to show this is a fact? If this is true, it is a great loss to the industry. Scot
Joe was in the hospital for bowel surgery. After surgery he took a turn for the worst and passed on. This information is from the GMC motorhome forum. He was a very knowledgable Oldsmobile person.
Sad news. I remember a tv interview with him at his shop. He was asked when he would retire and his response was something like when he died. He will be missed.
RIP Joe - while I've never met you, I've heard nothing but great things about your work and passion! See you on the other side . . .
Rest In Peace Joe. You will definitely be missed. http://72.22.90.30/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=75571&highlight Scot & Family
RIP Joe, many the day when I saw a Mondello car in the pits I knew the competition would be stout for everyone
This is really sad news. Met Joe in the eraly 1960's drag racing. He originally gained fame as a talented cylinder head porter with an affinity for Oldsmobiles and small block Chevys. His "Mondello & Matsubara" race cars were bad-ass fast. He was my friend for more than 50 years and I will sorely miss him. This one hurts. DAMN!
Mr Mondelo was good people, perhaps a little gruff but no more so that any other real rodder from his era. His contributions to our world were numerous they made all of our lives a little better. He has more than earned a long rest, he'll be missed by many. So long friend I'll see you on the other side.
Built my first 455 Olds for our jet boat back in the late 70's using Dr.Olds book. Man could it run. Thank you Joe R.I.P. Joe Your family is in our prayers.
