You might have an idea with the front fenders. I bought a cowl/spot light for the cowl that matches the headlights--hasn't arrived yet. Tease? How about a bikini girl to stretch out over the hood. Where to find...?

Interesting. I think those are 23 inch. Actually I have some aluminum wheel covers but they're not quite done. I hope they'll look something like this.

    Frame covers

I only got a little time to work on the Seagrave today, mainly on the frame covers--got one cut and tacked. The rest of the time I worked on my new (to me) GEO Metro--3 cylinder, 4 door, auto with air. I bought it wrecked and pounded out the rear hatch area all morning. So let's see, clicking axles, no reverse, ac won't work. I don't care, they tell me the damned things get 40+ MPG. My Trooper gets 18. I figure I can save $200 a month with this thing. We'll see.

I think I'd just drive the Metro as is. Just be sure to park where you can push it backwards or look for the pull thru spots!

  5. cars i have driven without reverse .. just drive up on curb then bounce - roll back do not drive over curbing tho

these were early mopars so you have about 2/3rds less weight

    Apron

I cut and tacked the left side frame cover then started on the apron. I don't have any Clecos, so I use little screws instead. With screws you can draw the metal up tight before you weld it too. After I got everything tightened down I discovered a few fit problems so I never got to the welding stage.

40mpg. much better than the 40 gpm of the Seagrave! The apron really looks good.

Headlight selection is going to be fun. How about a big cyclops dead center with smaller 'driving' lights nestled down low in the curve of the apron? Hey, just a thought, you gotta do it your way.

I like it, one headlight like the famed Sizaire Naudin. Actually, I bought some cool fork mounted "drum" lights. But I thought about mounting them on swivels that turn with the front wheels a la Tucker.

Those are very nice. I think headlight selection and placement will be a very enjoyable part of the project.

  11. mount those headlites way out in front and low right in front of your new apron

up in front of the rad is way to normal :)

    More apron

I'm starting to wish the apron was finished. Cutting, trimming, fitting, tacking... The trickiest part was making a wood form for the curve of the frame horn and pounding over the sheet metal. That's it, tomorrow my knee is CAT scanned so I'm not sure if I'll get anything done.

    CAT Scan vs. Seagrave

I drove over to the hospital. They sat me in a chair. A nice lady came and got me and guided me to a cubicle where she took my insurance information. After a few minutes she told me because my deductible hadn't been met my cost was going to be $1050. $1050! Damn! I thought it was going to be a couple hundred bucks! $1050! I need that money for the Seagrave. I can't be wasting it on CAT scans. I thanked her and left. I'll just have to keep taking my anti-inflammatory pills. Besides, the knee isn't bothering me much now. Tomorrow--gas welding!

You made the right choice. One CT scan later, all they'd say is 'gee, we really still don't know' and set you up for round 2 of the merry-go-round.

Around here there are independent testing labs that charge about half or less than the hospital price. Especially MRI places, $550 vs. $1550 at hospital. So shop around.

Also find a way to learn knee anatomy yourself so you can talk to them in their terms. Probably cartilage damage, needing arthroscopic surgery, or socket roughness. They recommend replacement for that, but the cure is often worse than problem.

Dirty not-so-secret is that many doctors recommend the treatment that puts the most $ in their pocket. So don't let them talk you into anything too quickly.

    Jerry,

Have you tried one of those strechy knee braces that look like a butterfly with velcro on the wings? I sometimes do things on horseback that an old fart should not do & find a few days with the brace straightens things up for quite a while.

I live in Canada, the land of huge taxes & free medical care. The taxes are not fun but it is great to just show your card for almost any test needed.

    Jack,
I snooped around on the internet, Tom's right, I found way cheaper places to get a CAT scan. Although I'm a big shopper, somehow I don't think of that when it comes to medical care--No more!

    Apron

I like to gas weld better than MIG. I use an old out-of-date REGO torch. It's real tiny. My preferred rod is baling wire--very soft and easy to work. People say to use a coat hanger. They've never tried to weld with a coat hanger. Coat hangers are like spring steel. They just start bubbling and burning. Baling wire flows like solder. Try it sometime. As soon as I started welding the knob fell off my trusty REGO. I soldered it back on. After making a short weld I realized I have more metal work to do. So it was back to cutting and bending and fitting. I've got the thing almost done. Just one more tiny piece to make. Then the welding begins, and then the grinding. Check out Jerry's patented grinder plane. I built it a few years ago to cut down welds without hurting the underlying metal. Can I make any money with it?

That torch looks like an ancient cousin to the Meco Midget that I use.

Larger, somewhat more ungainly, but certainly of the same general form and type.

    Neat.

I like it too, and good to see, that you are using a "thicker" disc with it!!!!!.....Lots of folks, will do a regular "zizz wheel disc", in the grinding capacity, and MANY, are lucky with it!!!!!

    Bodywork

I worked all morning welding and grinding. I wish I could do that really neat metal work I see other guys do here on the HAMB, but I'm just a hack. And for all us hacks there's BONDO. Yes, I thought about doing some lead work. I use lead to seal up gas tanks after I cut them open and clean out the rust. But, I didn't have any lead, nor any tinning butter, so when I saw that can of bondo sitting on the floor and I just opened-er-up and wiped-er-on. You guys will keep my secret, right? (Besides, I love that smell.) Then I got out the old Rodac air file and went to town. I took pictures but in my haste to pick up my kids at after-school I left the camera at the shop. Don't worry, there'll be more bondo to wipe.

  30. a woman driving near a park was watching a duck on the side of the road when the duck just keeled over flapped a wing and lay still as she was watching. she decided to take the duck to the vets office up the street she rushed in to the office with the limp duck in her arms asking loudly " is this duck alive is this duck alive " the vet came over took the duck to a prep room and announced the duck was dead the woman asked if she was sure the vet then went into the lobby grabbed the leash of a black lab and brought into look at the duck the dog sniffed the duck shook its head and walked out layed down at its masters feet
the vet then took a cat waiting in nearby cage and set it next to the duck the cat looked over the duck then raised its tail and jumped down from the table .
the woman asked " well is the duck alive" the vet said "no that will be $1810.00 dollars " what "she exclaimed
" yes the intial exam was ten bucks but after the lab report and the cat scan the price went up"
