Here are my great-grandparents in their Velie. My grandpa said ALL the girls wanted to go for a ride in that car and he made off with it every chance he could. Grandma knew about this and when I was starting high school football, she said it would be safer to cruise around and give girls rides after school than it would be to play football, because that's what Harold did !!

Driving the Velie Touring car below is my great uncle, in the passenger seat is my Granddad, and his folks are in the back. They came to Nebraska from Sweden and bought land from the railroad to settle on. They are in front of the house I grew up in, the farm was located between two towns and they had a service station there, they sold Archer Oil.

I think the Futurliners had air conditioned cabs. The Futurliners as we seem them today wear the renovations that were done in the early 1950s. The Futurliners were actually built prior to WWII and had bubble canopies, and were, hence, air conditioned.

Here's a cool "then & now" from here in Portland, OR. Corner of SE Division & 11th. The white building still houses an automotive shop.

 

Supposedly these were the earlier versions that were rehabed to be the Futureliners.

 

My Mom around 1955 competing in a powderpuff Derby,the Ladies would run between the Heats and Main Event.this was @ Belmont Raceway Calif.

 

It would appear that I don't have my facts straight. The Futurliners in their original bubble-canopy state were NOT air conditioned.

Passenger car air conditioning units were added for the 1953 rebuild.

I remember as a kid seeing a TV News clip of a guy that mounted a Douglas DC on a chassis and drove it around.. Now I see he only copied the Futureliner.

 

Bought my wife a small '56 Skagit boat a few years back. Can't find much info on them these days!

working my way thru.. its a very enjoyable slow process and well worth every minute spent. This looks a lot like the "Riverside Cabins" somewhere in Montana dad used to haul all of us off to in summer while he went out selling magazines during the daylight hours. I must have been 3-5 years then.. but I remember it a little.

 

I believe that's late '50s or early '60s.

 

Yeah, Judging from the cars with dual quad headlights its '58 or later.

I am up to page #648 and I have yet to see any pic's of the 1950"s YO-YO contests.
Remember how ever drug store had a YO-YO contest and the Duncan Co. would bring in some one to demonstrate all the tricks you could do with a Duncan YO-YO.

Rootes group made real Singers until the mid fifties. I think the last one was the SM 1500. The single overhead cam engine went well but was unreliable. After that they became tarted up Hillmans. The very last was the Singer Chamois, a fast back version of the Hillman Imp
