Come on Spike you know it doesn,t work like that. No matter how bad you have it, you still have to pay the saleries of those who do nothing all year; that's right congress.

Thursday and Friday I got pulled off the Milton Miller, and Jim had me help him get the V-16 ready, mounted in the Dyno, plumbed, and ready to fire off for the first time EVER in history for this engine. When Harry Miller closed his doors in 1937 this Engine was on the build table unfinished. Jim took what was left and finished it with a later Supercharger to be put in a Miller replica Two seater.

This engine is amazing!! Can't wait to hear it run!

I had to weld up a bunch of pieces and chunks of aluminum and make the base for the intake mate up with the Three 2 barrel carbs. It turned out pretty good! Then had to make all the gaskets, and assemble the front drive blower set up. Then I fabricated water tubes and installed.

New Pop-Off valves had to be made from scratch. Jim decided to match the ones on the NOVI.

All in the Dyno and almost ready for fire..

Hey Sramoa Here are the points for sprints in 1956. Apparently there were no national point standings for sprints, only big cars. I have yearbooks 1956-1974

Lumpy, the sprints didn't have a national champ until 1961 season.

    Was midwest-eastern

If you remember in 1961, both Foyt (eastern champ), and Jones (Midwest champ) had #1 on their cars.

Hey everyone I just joined up...I'm on a search for my Grandfather's old pictures. I see some references to him on here, so I was wondering if anyone had any old footage or pictures from his races. Danny Kladis was his name, and one particular race I am looking for is when he raced blindfolded with my uncle, George Kladis. Any response would be much appreciated by myself and our family! Thank you!

Hello, ktkladis89 and welcome. I watched Danny and Gorge run. Watched them running with the silver dollars taped on then blindfolded “WOW”! I don’t have many photos just what I have saved as A child and what I have found on the web. When I get time I will look threw my stuff and see what I can come up with. I have posted some photos on the (Vintage “cageless” Midget picture thread) Take A look.
Here is A photo of the push races they use to have at Joliet stadium. My father use to race with them and were friends. Good to have you, Tom
PS. Sorry about the cage guy’s. :p

I think it's great to have these people wanting to know more about their family racers. It keeps the interest alive.

One of my favorite cars that ever ran at the Speedway was Les Anderson's Kennedy Tank Special. Les drove it in 1948, and Bill Cantrell drove it in 1949. The car found its way to the NASCAR's short-lived speedway division, repowered with a Desoto engine. Pat Kennedy, of Kennedy Tank located the car and is having it restored for the 100th anniversary of the first Indianapolis 500. Denny Jamison and the crew at Hammer Art on Gasoline Alley in Indianapolis are doing the restoration. Can't wait till May to see it finished.

Glad to hear they are doing the Kennedy Tank car. Bill Cantrill drove my Dad's Sprint car for 5 or 6 years before going to Indy in 48. He was a great Sprint car driver [and Indy] before and during his boat racing, which he is best known for.

YES! We have this one on file too! Tomorrow I'll get all the pictures they have of the car(s) Yes the HCS Special had a sister car.. It looke just like it, and ZAKIRA'S did the restoration on it a couple years ago... but as it was in 1926!!

The different Grille shell is an interesting bit.. The Owner HCS who owned and Built HCS Automobiles wanted the cars to have a grille hsell like his passenger cars. The cars showed up at Indy, practiced, and Qualified with the RED MILLER grille.. BUT!! The story goes that HCS had the grille above shipped in the day before the race, and the car RACED WITH THE GRILLE ABOVE.. HOWEVER!!! THERE ARE NO PHOTOGRAPHS TO PROOVE THIS... and, we like the RED miller grille better! :p

Maybe one of you will provide the "Tell tail" photo.. I have found one of it on the grid the day of the race and two guys are standing IN FRONT OF THE GRILLE!! :(

    Thanks!

TommyA19, Not sure, probably if it doesn't conflict with my driving Skip's midget, what's the date for Loudon? Denny Z

  29. Many of you may have all ready seen this proclamation that I've posted in other threads on the H.AM.B.; but, I'm trying to spread the word that seem's to be hard getting out. Particularly in southern California and Arizona.

From April 28th to May 1st at AAA speedway (formerly California Speedway) in Fontana, the greatest value in motorsports, The Route 66 Classic, will be held.

The Historic Champ/Indy Car Association (HCICA), in conjunction with the Vintage Auto Racing Association (VARA), will be running the show.

HCICA will be running no pace car exhibitions on the two mile oval; while VARA will be running all out races on the road course.

I say it is the greatest value in motorsports, as the admission is $10.00 (kids under 12 free). For that you get a pass that let's you in the venue, all the pits and garages; all weekend. TONS OF RACING PORN FOR TEN BUCKS!;)

You never know what's going to show up. Check the photo album (all the pics) to see what HCICA cars showed up last year.

    http://lateralgimages.smugmug.com/2010/2010-HCICA/11345553_LZmsr#812363600_ZMnpS

Hopefully Tom Malloy, who always brings some interesting cars from his collection; will bring his Novi engined car:)
