Latest update on the J2X we got the engine parts back from Taylor Engines , killer headwork Schneider cam, adj rockers , JE Pistons etc. We assembled it & now she's ready for install. We will run it then get the PML valve covers polished & the headers dressed & HPC coated.
The car & chassis are going to be Ferrari Daytona red per Allan's instructions. Were planning on a test run before paint to make sure all is well in AllardWorld.

Is an Allard J2X a Hot Rod?? Yes !!!

I am a big Allard fan, back when I was in the Air Force in the '80s I had a chance to buy a K-3, it was originally a Cadillac powered car but when I looked at it it had no engine or transmission. The top was also MIA and it had a rollbar installed. Instead of the 3 person bench seat it had buckets that looked like Cobra (or just about any other British sport car) seats. The winshield had been removed and was in the trunk, it was replaced with a pair of "Brooklands" screens. Perhaps the most unusual thing about the car was that it had Dunolp style alloy wheels, I don't know if these were original to car or not. I should have bought it for the $3100.00 that it was offered for, but I thought I would have to put way more into than it would ever be worth ... what is that old saying about hindsight ???!!!???

One of my "Lottery Winner Cars" would have to be a hand crafted replica of General Curtis Le May's J2R race car !!!

  9. Speaking of Brooklands style screens..... I just bought a pair of these (see below) - they're meant for some sort of MG T series but look like they would fit nicely on that Allard cowl.

The photos look great Randy , video almost done , sucker runs at 170 degrees , unreal !!I drove up & down the alley 6 or 7 times park up temp gauge says 155 degrees amazing.Jack Matson Radiator & I made an adapter to use a GM thermostat , lays the top hose flat.I think that helps keep the air out of the system, the old mechanical fan pulls a ton of air , the air intake is designed to pull air in the rad & it works great.

The Valve covers come from PML we just started selling them , they are a great alternative to the hard to find Hildebrandts , we needed them to clear the adjustable rockers.

  17. What do the valve covers go for Steve? Polished or unpolished options?

Yes, thanks to Gen LeMay for, among all the other things, Laguna Seca...

Allards...another car that was worth nothing when I was in high school that'd now take at least a marriage-threatening bite out of the retirement fund ("but hon, it's an INVESTMENT!")

Somewhere in an old issue of Automobile Quarterly is a customarily gut-splitting Dick O'Kane piece about a high-school girl and her Allard named Grendel...I'll have to look for it when I get home.

It would be interesting to see how much H.P. it takes to spin that old mechanical fan !. Steve you and your crew are amazing it is a pleasure working with you.

    Chris....

  24. The Tiger started at the Jensen factory as a Alpine body shell. The trans tunnel and center of the firewall were torched out (at the factory) and new sections welded in. There were a couple of small areas on the outer firewall that were hammer massaged, but nothing major. Holes were also torched in the x-member for exhaust passage, with reinforcement plates fitted around the holes.

Cheers Chris, I hope there is some HP left to get it around the track , so far it pulls like a school boy. Starts first push on the start button & idles like a champ.

Very nice work, as always, Steve!! Was cool to check this car out during the GNRS. Thanks for the hospitality!

Man that Cad engine sounds good! Love those valve covers, too.

Well it's paint time , so I'm going to blow her apart , HPC for the exhaust , finish the rear nerfs plug & polish , chrome the shocks & get the chrome wheels fitted with Dunlop racing rubber (all 6 wheels , 2 spares, this was set up as an endurance racer )Bob Cole is ready to get her in red.

Here are a few Allards I saw last year at Classic Silverstone in the UK:

There were mostly passenger cars but a couple of racers as well - this
    one is a well-known J2X, cad powered I think.

The dressed up flathead was in this four seater:

I liked this one the most, it was unrestored, with a flattie.

There was a Kurtis there as well which I'll put in here for no other reason than it would be fast and loud.
