THIS IS AN UPDATE!Viddler removed this video and closed my account, making this historic footage once again unavailable in a full length version. However my son has finally figured out a way to upload it in its entirety to good ol' youtube! So it's back, and screw Viddler.Enjoy.
A couple of years back this footage was shown for the first time in three parts on the jalopy journal, and I fell in love with it instantly! I have watched it two or three times a week, or any time I need cheering up since Evel and Ryan first posted it. The only thing that bugged me a little bit after a while was the very lightweight doo-wop romantic ballad soundtrack it came with. Well, my son Danny just dropped a birthday surprise on me and has re-edited the clips with a slightly tougher yet still period traditional rock 'n' roll soundtrack. I checked with Evel first, and he saw no reason why I shouldn't share this updated version of this awesome footage with you guys. Every time I watch it I just want to climb in live there. Hope you enjoy.

this was the only site that would allow me to host such a long clip and I couldn't figure out how to embed the video on the HAMB. If any of you clever cats out there can do it, there help would be much appreciated!
    Paul

PS; I thought about using rockabilly, surf and drag tracks (which I love) but I didn't want to ruin the period perfectness with anything to obscure.

I lived 60 years about 15 miles north of Norwalk (which is next to Mooneyes). and, yes, that's they was it REALLY was.
The clothes, the girls and the cars.....the real deal...
Now, I'm gonna go tuck my shirt in and comb my hair....gotta look snappy!!!!
COOL!! Thanks to Evel, too!!!!!!!!!! :):):)

Wow! massive improvement! I may be the only one, but I think I would rather put a bullet in my brain than listen to 21 minutes of Doo Wop... I remember when then video first hit, I tried but just couldn't take the soundtrack. Extra bonus for using some of the more "off the beaten path" early rock instead of the same 10 songs heard at every car shows every week! Too cool to see the quarter midgets and Calorie's Triumph in the mix too! As far as the clothes and styles and stuff, I have to laugh at Mazooma1's comment above - I have dressed with my shirt tucked in and penny loafers shined up every day for the last thirty years and get teased for being a bit too fussy... HHHMMM.

Just a quick heads up,if you're going to download it, do it sooner rather than later as it's only good on there for 30 days.

Not that I'm sanctioning illegal downloads or anything:p

Cool, thanks for posting the new edit. Looks and sounds great!

A LOT of cool stuff on there, but would love to have that 350SL just for the sheer 'WTF, are you crazy?' factor. Why yes, yes I am. Thanks for asking.

Too Cool! Now I know where all the Olds and Dodge spinner hubcaps ended up in the 50's.

Great stuff. I wonder if anyone at that time realized what icons some of those cars would become, such as the Kopper Kart, Norm Grabowski's T-bucket, Dave Cunningham's '40 Ford, etc. :D

Thanks for posting ... now I think I'll watch it again.

Great video! Nice to see the Kopper Kart and R&C Dream Truck too. And I liked the early rock 'n roll soundtrack.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's, born in 1950. I was raised right here in hot rod/customs central in the Los Angeles area.
Why wouldn't we all smile? Life was good and the girls were pretty.
I'd love to see some ladies at a car show today dressed and looking like those gals in this video. Now that would be cool and period correct.
Believe me, no ladies looked like many do today...none. NADA...
They pretty much looked like this (below)...we were perfectly happy.
The whole "no smile" thing never made any sense to me. Geez, if your having such a bad time, ...leave. Go do something else. This isn't a casting call for "West Side Story".:)

Yes man, it is Chuck Berry, the recording is called "County line" and was unreleased at the time of recording, although it's easy enough to pick up online or on CD now. He also gave the song a slightly different treatment but with exactly the same words and released it as "the Thunderbird and the jaguar", both very cool recordings, I just think County line has the edge.

The bronze colored '32 pickup was Ed Cuzins of the renegades. Used to see that all the time crusing around Long Beach.

Suweet sound track. Along with the flamed Mercedes Gullwing and the Curtis roadster. I'd like to know more about that unique roadster at the very end 22:00.

Great footage! Assuming it was done in 1957 can you imagine having a brand new car at a custom/rod show? Saw a 57 Ford, 57 Buicks, 57 Tbird and several 56's. Anyone today who showed up in a 2010 or 2011 would get hooted out of the show. Interesting to see that famous bronze hemi coupe was a trailer queen.

Hey the pic that Mazooma put on post 19 was taken at the NY worlds Fair on the Ford Company ride.. Dang I feel old when I say I was right there, driving one of the 64 full size red convs. I don't remember those cuties though.

A blast from the past. Thanks for the pic

  29. Just to be the contrarian, I liked the doo wop better. It was the soundtrack to those years to me.
