And he may be looking for a long time to come. That was a pretty rare and valuable 36 Studebaker cluster....

There was a lot of rare stuff in there most of which I didn't recognize or had never seen before.

I wish I would have had access to a digital camera when I first heard about the yard some 35 years ago. There was twice as much in there then including some really rare vehicles like the 1935 or 6 Sampson (Pontiac) Trucks of which I believe there were only 64~ built. Stan had 2 of them in the yard and they both sold to the same fellow although I don't know where they ended up. The asking price in the local buy/sell (bargain finder) was $1200 and the I remember seeing the ad run for several months in and around 1978. The Bargain Finder was a small local freebie paper at the time so I want to believe that the trucks were sold locally although Stan Reynolds was a huge world wide dealer selling Surplus Heavy Army Equipment, Vintage Aircraft And Steam Engines etc. -so they could be anywhere.

For what it's worth, 35 years later I can't even find info on the 35/6 Pontiac Trucks (Canadian Production only?) although I do remember seeing production numbers/years thru GM research info that was sent out to my neighbor/buddy in the mid 70's. I Can't remember if it was Sampson or Samson though?

  12. There is a 36 Stude in the bush here but the gauges are gone..... I hear you on people wanting just a part.A guy insisted I was going to sell him the chrome shifter shaft off of off a complete unit. $75.00 for the complete unit but wanted to give me $15.00 for the part he wanted. Had to finally tell him to fuck off.

I'd be tempted to grab that Wyvern but you'd go through hell finding the missing parts and I have enough project Vauxhalls. Would make a really cool Rod tho.

I think I remember seeing pics of the car you are talking about, did you post pics here on the HAMB?

A guy up north also posted some pics of a 36...

Are they rare because the are an import or are they rare in Europe as well?

The definition isn't to good for Wetaskiwin so it's really hard to see what's left. I do know that the Aircraft hanger is still chalk full of goodies.

Wow, Moe, I go away for a few hours, and there are beau coup new posts here! LOL

Obviously a GREAT yard, even as the old fella begins to wind things down, for sure.

Everybody, PLEASE remember this thread theme, though. Moe isn't marketing these cars or parts here. And I don't know if he wishes to be a middle man. Everybody remember the HAMB rules and guidelines. PM Moe with questions, and I believe he can speak for himself.

Rare in Canada because they were imports I'd imagine, but even in Britain they have a very low survival rate. Old Vauxhalls are expensive to restore, rust like Italian cars, parts are tough to get and when finished they aren't very valuable although that's starting to change. Done up that car is worth maybe $5-6k in Britain.

It's good to see some of the foreign brands being restored/collected. I watch a lot of 'Top Gear' and those guys are good at high lighting the good, the bad and the ugly of the European Cars. It's seems like lots of 'classics' turn up for "torture testing" and then they are probably just left for dead.
(I wonder what happens to the surviving cars?)

When I was there in summer 2007, there was no "picking"or 'parting' allowed from the yard/cars so that particular '30 Pontiac was probably sold for the $300 asking price with all it's jewels attached.

HAMBer THE235KID of Canton, TX, brought a good, ol' yard to some prominent attention when he posted a SCAD of pix last October on a thread he titled, "Midway Auto Salvage (Junk Yard Gold! Everything is for sale) Dallas, TX." I'd like to help draw attention to the yard and his post, for two reasons: (1) for those who love to SEE pix of VT, it's a great place; (2) it's in DRY north Texas, SO there are MANY good project and parts cars there! Not like the northeast U.S., folks!

Here are some of what I felt were outstanding, mainly in terms of RARITY, especially independents. BUT, there's plenty of '40s to '60s "BIG THREE" iron, too. He says the owner, Tom, sells parts, for sure, but he reserves less picked-over cars for sale, whole. 235Kid says Tom crushes late stuff, plus crushes for other yards, but he brings BACK older material to his own yard. While no situation is perfect, Tom seems to have a pretty well-managed situation as junkyards go, if you ask me. :D He does get some EPA pressure, though, as do about ALL junkyards! :(

Anyway, if you are in need, first, SEE 235Kid's thread, as he shows well over 100 photos of actual cars in Tom's yard, Midway Auto Salvage. And if you live in Ellis County, Texas, of any of the surrounding counties, you may want to rake up some cash, hook up the trailer, and hit the road! Midway Auto is near Midlothian, TX, on Highway 287, between Midlothian and Waxahatchie, the county seat. This is only about a half-hour southwest of Dallas, folks. U.S. Rt. 67 runs right by Midlothian.

Been there:D, Lots of good stuff still, he has a ton of builders as you walk in that he will not sell parts of. Most are complete cars an most late 40's and up, range of price was a $1000 and up on rollers.

Right on, A-Bone. Prices aren't what they were back when I was a car-crazy kid. But then, they aren't making any more of these. So, sometimes it take a grand or so just to have something good to start with, eh?
