  2. I got the truck back tonight from the exhaust shop. They did a really nice job as usual. The hangers are real neat and clean. The pipes are 1 3/4" The mufflers are 24" glasspacks. I think it sounds good, but kinda quiet. The engine is bone stock though. The weather is pretty crappy here today, 35 and real windy.

BTW, I was impressed with the clean bends you made with the brake tubing.

As was I. It kills me when someone shoves 48 inches of brake line in a 37 inch run. Makes it too easy to get caught on icy snow too if you drive year round.
Sounds killer. Can't wait to hear it rolling down the road

  7. I just take my time and use a tube bender. It is really easy. Just takes time.

  8. Here are some underneath pictures of the chassis showing the exhaust. There really is not very much. The guys did a good job. Plus they gave me a really good deal.

They could not find any flanges so I made a pair out of 1/4" flat stock.

I just got done sweeping when I took these pictures. You can see the dust in the air!

  9. I have these tail lights from my 48 Ford firetruck. I was saving them for this truck. I made some brackets but they didn't work out so I made another set out of aluminum. I am going to paint them black yet. I am not sure if I like them yet. I am going to add another 1" hole I think between the box and the first one. I think painting them black will help.

  10. This thing is great! I love the detail you put into each update, keep 'em comin!

  11. I am trying to button things up back to front. Tonight I made some rear bumper supports. Since the gas tank is in the rear, I figured I better protect it from all the stupid drivers out there. The rear bumper has two squares cut into it in the middle so i am going to triangulate to the frame for some added strength. I had a pair of 73-80 Chevy truck front cross member support brackets from another project from 20 years ago that I never used.

I had to heat them up and bend them to fit the curve in the bumper so I could bolt it tight. I also c had to cut off one end and rotate it and weld it back on. They look like they were made for this truck. I am very pleased with how they turned out!

  12. I got the bed wood painted and installed.

  13. Progress has been slow. All I have managed to do in the last week was paint the radiator black, and tonight I installed the fenders with all the hardware and installed the front apron and hood shelves.

Maybe I missed it, but is there paint planned for the future? It's coming along really well. I think it's a good idea to put the reinforcers beneath the tank, too.

You're inspiring me to get back onto mine, for sure. Keep it up!!!

  15. Yes, paint next winter. We are trying to get it driving to take it to Back to the 50's in 1 1/2 months. I think we will make it. Now that spring may be here, time to work on it is getting scarce.

  16. Today I bolted on the light bar with the headlights and an old Aoogah horn a friend gave me. He also gave me the headlight lenses. I set the visor on to see how it looked. I like the car visor better than the truck visor.

  18. I installed the top wood kit on Saturday. I bought it from Howell's. It required a little custom work but not too bad.

  19. We bought a Wolf Whistle and installed it today. I had trouble figuring out how to mount it so I used 1/4" pipe to give it some rigidity.

Nice truck very cool to see the progres here. Do you have any instalation pics of you putting the top wood in? Where you happy with howells service? did you use ebay or through there site? I have heard horror storeis about them, seems they treat ebay customers good, there are threads on it not trying to bring up drama. I ask because I got my '29 driving and top wood is next on the to do list. I like the car visor might have to copy that.

  21. I was in a hurry and had people over so I never took any pictures of the wood install. The wood is really easy to install though. The most important thing to do is bolt down the cab to the frame with all the bolts and get the doors to close good. Then bolt down the side pieces and then add the front and rear. The side wood it the key to making the door fit good.
I did it with no instructions. I bought the wood from Howells on Ebay $300 no shipping. Came in a few days. I am very happy with them.

  23. I removed all the old weatherstrip from the windshield and installed new stuff from Mac's. I was suprised to see safety glass.

This is a great build - very inspirational. I can't wait to follow it further.

Incidentally, the Model A came originally with safety glass, supposedly after Henry Ford witnessed one of his test drivers thrown through the windshield of a prototype (why he didn't think of seatbelts at the same time, we'll never know).

  26. I picked up a used original 32 Ford front bumper and nos front and rear brackets today from an old timer friend of mine. I found them in his garage. He forgot he had them. He said he got the stuff on the 60's when he had bought a used 32 Ford coupe.

I also picked up this heater. I plan on putting it in the truck.

  27. On Monday night I took my dad for a ride up the road in the truck to see how it worked. I immediately noticed a steering issue. When I accelerate the truck was all over the road. The front tires rubbed on the fenders going over the slightest bump. Other than that is was a blast. It runs good and has plenty of power.

Here is the right front before

Tonight I had a few hours so I took apart the front end. I pulled the leaf spring out and unreversed it. I removed the top small leaf spring and put it back together. I raised it about 1 1/4". I like the low looks but it is not practical.

Here is the after picture. It did not change the appearance much.

Here is how I re-arched the spring. I learned this trick here on the Hamb.

  28. I found two issues that affected the steering. I had a loose tie rod on the drag link, and the hoop steering arm flexes when you turn.

The solution was easy. I put a new tie rod end on and I got a new steering arm. This one is 1.25" longer and it eliminates the tire hitting the draglink and wish bone. It has no flex at all.

  29. Here is a side view from today. It is hard to tell I raised the front end 1"
