Ozonic Mineral Water Company was at one time based at Westwood at the junction of Margate Road and Westwood Road. It's believed that Ozonic purchased (amongst others) a drinks company at 28 Turner Street Ramsgate (formerly Ramsgate Taxis) and there are many bottles buried under the present structure

This truck didn't quite make it around the bend at the bottom of Grange Road into St Augustine's Road.
The truck is thought to be an army vehicle and from the look of the wreckage it appears a motorcycle was involved

On a post from the Disney History blog, J.B. Kaufmann noted: "According to a syndicated story that appeared in newspapers in 1934, an Australian admirer sent Walt a gift of two wallabies, a male and a female. By the time they reached the States, they had produced a third. According to this story, the Disney staff promptly named the male wallaby Leapo, the female Hoppo, and the baby Poucho. This of course became an obvious inspiration for the cartoon Mickey's Kangaroo, released the following April. Joe Grant told me in 1988 that the newspaper story was true; he remembered the wallabies being kept in a pen outside the story department. I asked him if the name that appears on the mailing label in the cartoon, Leo Buring, was the name of the real-life person who sent the animals to Walt, and he thought it probably was."

Killara at Cowes (photo supplied by John Jansson)

The first roll-on roll-off car ferry was the ex Sydney Harbour car ferry Killara. She was 146ft long and could carry about 40 cars and 1,000 passengers, with probably many more passengers on car and bike race days. She ran from 1933 to 1942 and was sold because the boiler was nearing the end of its life.

I wish this photo could be enlarged. Grahame, this one's very significant,
at the still-small town of Cassville, Wisconsin, on the upper Mississippi.
Starting in 1833, it is the oldest operating ferry in the state and is Cassville's
chief tourist attraction. It is also on the National Register of Historic Places
and connects two official scenic byways. 178 years of history aside, though,
the current administration allotted stimulus money to replace the old-style
ferry, with the new one opening this year.

1936. If that little one were a tad OLDER, those ladies
would have never made it by the confectionary!

Headed home from church? :p Two young fellas seem to be
cooling their dogs outside the cigar store, Jackson, 1936.

Wow, the Duece is only four years old! :) Super pic of newsboys in downtown Jackson was apparently snapped by a New York news photographer. All four of the previous photos are available on eBay, if you are a collector or just love one of these and want it on your wall. For fun, somebody want to run these two plates?

These pictures of ferries are really neat. We still have a ferry across the Cape Fear River about 45 miles south of me that looks much like this. It is operated by the state DOT and is gasoline powered but still uses the cable to keep it from floating too far down stream.

Thanks, SunRoofCord/Jim on the '35 Pontiac!

Joe, thank YOU for the note RE the old-type ferry on the Cape Fear! I recognize that most of those use an updated propulsion system, BUT they are still cool.

I am familiar with the Cape Fear and an old plantation down from Wilmington. Hampton, it may have been called. Long time gone for me isnce I was in that neck o' the woods, bro! Would that ferry be anywhere near that old plantation???

THANKS, both of you, for the replies! -- Jimi

"The Car Ferry MILWAUKEE. On October 22, 1929, the car ferry MILWAUKEE became one of Lake Michigan’s most famous shipwrecks when she floundered during a gale en route from the City of Milwaukee to Grand Haven, Michigan under the command of Captain Bob “heavy weather” McKay."
