"The Cherry Pit"......I used to drive by it years later, when I got my license, but of course, I never stopped in.....I'd never want to see some woman's large, perky boobs and drink lots of beer with my friends.....I was always passing by on my way to play Bridge or Bingo with my Grandma....:)rolleyes:)

  2. Thanks for my morning laugh Doug! ;)

Also, if you guys thought San Gabe was "rough and tumble", it was a modern mega facility compared to the original San Gabe strip of the 50's, or Colton!

We hung out at the same place, I remember well driving to San Gabriel to see the "Untouchable," and the race between the Greek and Vance Hunt...Garlits said that the Greek did such a high wheelstand that he could have walked under the car and changed the oil upright....the car with the Speed Sport airscoop was Jim Ward, I think, with Don Yates driving....remember Don Hampton's coupe well, think it was light purple.

San Gabriel attracted a hard-core crowd of both racers and spectators...the place to go after the races was the Green Door, I was not 21 then so just had to listen to the stories...sounded like all the guys who went got laid...but when I was old enough to actually get through the front door I found out that the top fuel guys were the lucky ones, we little guys pretty much got ignored.......still, some pretty wild times, so thanks for the pictures!!!!!

    Apologies are in order.

A friend told me about your board and the "NHRA Junior Stocker" and "Drag cars in motion" thread. I had some old shots I thought the group would enjoy but some of them were late 60s early 70s cars. You are completely correct if you thought "another FNG who didn't read the posting rules". I did go through most of these two threads looking for directions but didn't realize the pre 65 rules until another member sent the following note.
"As much as we all appreciate photos, please be aware that this site is for true hot rodders and they do not allow photos of cars newer than 1965. We have gotten away with posting some stuff from the early 1970's, but have had the thread edited and photos removed."

    The posts have been removed.
    My sincere apologies.

The Revell Kit was a regular So-Cal AA/GS open circuit member. "Rules be damn, its got a door, runs gas, its a gasser." Note that in the shot of the car at Pomona, its been classified as a BB/Altered, not gasser. The NHRA werent as forgiving in overlooking obvious rule infractions. Ironically, Revell never made a kit of the car.

Wasn't the "Glass Chariot" owned and driven by Dick LaHaie?

Glad to see some more stuff from my neck of the woods.....The Harry Peapers 39 Chevy has been beautifully restored and is frequently on display at many mid-atlantic nostalgia events!!!!

  24. That very well could be Lahaies' Roadster,,,I know he ran one on Fuel but thought it had a Chrysler in it.

This car was later sold to the team of Teeves and Dubock (sp) and was campaigned as the Big kahuna. I found the car advertised in the LA <link rel="File-List" href="file:///C:/Users/BARRIN%7E1/AppData/Local/Temp/msoclip1/01/clip_filelist.xml"><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:DoNotOptimizeForBrowser/> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><style> <!-- /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> </style> Recycler in the late '90s for $800 and ended up selling it to Brent Hejak about six moths later to fund other projects. Other than the missing engine and trans the car was exactly the way Stone ,Woods and Bones campaigned the car. I will try to post some pics of the way it was found.

Does have a familiar ring.Although looking back in my EDN's,the week of June 21,1963,there is an ad for the race.
    Mason-Dixon on June 30
Don Westerdales'(they spelled it wrong)Dubble Trubble vs Chili Cattalo's blown fuel Olds from Detroit. Not familiar with Chili.Does not mention "Glass Chariot" name.
The June 30 race report says Glass Chariot from Michigan.Maybe LaHaie filling in? Dunno.
