How about that picture of Glen Self and the Stormin six Camaro from Oklahoma running Carroll Caudle and the bad 55 Chevrolet from Texas.

Back in the day these two guys could run with the best of them in modified production.

Thanks for the great picture Muttley!

This was from 1969, the last year that Manufacturers Championships segregated the cars according to their powerplant. At the time, rarely did you see a car owner deviate from installing a body from a brand that didnt match the engine manufacturer. In 1969, in recognition of the ever changing approach to running a 392/426 on fuel regardless of body make, OCIR management created a new team category dubbed Wacky Racers. They are located in the upper left: Mike Van Sant's Invader Vette (392) Clyde Morgan's Javelinn (427 Chev) Rivero's Frantic Ford (392) Lenearth/Wolford Holly Toledo Jeep (392), Gene Conways 392 Vette Roadster being the most indentifiable.

I remember this event at Orange County Intl Raceway well. The forth car from Mike Vansant's just happens to be my brother's Blue Hell Corvair. I think the car to our left is Terry Hedrick's Nova. OCIR was a good track but, we always preferred "the beach" Lions. We could race a Saturday at Lions and a meet at either Irwindale, OCIR, Carlsbad, Ramona or Fremont on Sunday. There were even times Lions would run Friday's OCIR Sat and we would race Fremont on Sunday. an era that will not be re-created.

Really?!?!? When I posted that picture I was hoping that someone had not found and restored it. What a shame.
