I was thinking the same thing.

  3. ebay has rules, you bought it, sight unseen.....no matter what is under the custom body work.......
I inspect vehicles in S. Florida for ebay purchases, but only prior to the sale.....

  4. After looking at the images, you do plan on doing a lot of work on this.....
its a 30 foot car. A "rusted" brake line and its OK to drive home.......
every time you put gas in it the whole car is going to smell......
    Where is the trunk emblem?
    rough body work...bikini pic
What about the door trim panels????
Get reciepts for the engine work!

  5. Agreed.

Just a note, not intending to offend anybody, but, remember one thing guys, American Iron in Europe and I assume Australia is a hell of a lot more expensive than it is at home, so this car may be reasonably priced compared to any in Australia, assuming that you could find a similar car there as a project base.

Market forces dictate that we pay as much or more in Pounds Sterling than you would pay in US Dollars .

  9. Yeah, lot of anger here. Ease up, lads! I don't renege on deals, but in hindsight, you guys don't know me and, I admit, it sounds like I am trying to cut out of the deal. Quite the opposite. I love this car, just curious if others had seen it around. My intention wasn't anything more than that. Paying for it as soon as he gives me his details...

Yes, you are right about the value of the thing. Can't buy shit here for ten grand.

  10. thats right even full on projects over here go for 20-30 grand for any kind of nice 50s or 60s car. i do however worry about him actually being able to import the thing with our shitty import laws (not speaking from experience, just going from word of mouth and what the magazines have been saying) i have however had bad experience with buying cars sight unseen, now i always take someone who knows what there looking at with me when buing a car. buy as stated he may be looking for a project and provided the cars reasonably comlpete, that isnt a bad price for over here

Before you go any further with this deal Please for your own sake go and check out the rules and regulations for importing a modified vehicle into Aussie.
You will not be able to get this thing into Australia period so avoid any distress and deal with it now.

The Department of Infrastructure are targeting cars that have been essentially remanufactured. Vehicles originally manufactured prior to 1/1/1989 can only be imported if the owner can demonstrate that any modifications made were done prior to that date. Imports will only be approved if Dol is satisfied that the modifications were completed before 1/1/1989.

  12. mate, your probably better off importing a stocker because it sounds like you may have problems getting this vehicle in the country. looks like a lowered buick with the top cut off to me, unfinished at that done in somebody's backyard.hope i'm wrong!

Good Luck , Keep us informed on how you go getting this into the country ....

  15. I dont understand what there is to knock back? The guy I am buying it off is fitting door handles to it and wipers at my expense. The windscreen has been shortened. But since it was already a convertible, that surely wouldn't be regarded as a conversion? The rest of the car is practically stock, no? Surely they aren't going to nick me for frenched headlights?

some of these guys are just trying to give you the heads up on some possible import problems, I have learned alot here, pay attension to what these guys are telling you. Except for the key board jockey ass holes that have nothing better to do than trash your new ride. I think the car is cool as hell and I wish you the best of luck getting her home. Please keep us updated with some better pics you get her!

  18. Thanks mate. Got the cash in hand ready to go. Waiting for him to give me the details of acc.

Just wish he'd run with something like paypal instead of direct bank deposit. Ease my mind a bit, and that was the whole point of this post. Know what I am saying?
Hey, ok, I'll stop being a princess! :p

  19. be sure to let us know how you got on. id like to hear first hand how all this import BS works and find out if its all just getting blown out of proportion. BTW we want pics when you get it over here:D

  20. Mate, if I get it over here, I will shout you all over to my place for a beer!

  21. Winning bidder of an E-Bay auction, has committed to buy the item-plain and simple. All doubts (condition, transportation, inspections, tire kicking), should have been dealt with prior to making the winning bid. The car is now yours..pay the man. Good luck with your purchase. I think the Buick has a great look.

Well anyway- I work in Marietta and live just up the road in Acworth. I can go give it a look see if you need. And hey, if you end up not being able to get it to Australia, go ahead and pay for it and give it to me; I have a nice warm/cool (depending on the season) garage spot I can put it in.

But yeah, PM me if you need some help.

  23. youre on. mite be a bit of a drive for me tho:rolleyes:

If it were me I would pay someone to go look at it. The fact it says " bill of sale in hand" scares me. It definately looks like a sedan with the roof cut off, unless he added bracing underneath that cars gonna fold in half. I would imagine the gas tank in the trunk is due to other issues, rather than clearance. Plexiglass windshield is a big no no etc... Although I agree backing out of an eBay deal is a shitty thing to do and I dont condone it, I would probably run away from this thing. At least make sure it has a clear title or they won't let it leave the docs

I live in GA and own 3 old cars. You are not allowed to have a title to an old car here. This is something that needs to be fixed because it does make it hard to sell a car to someone that lives where a title is required. I had a car that came with a title. When I went to register it they said they did not need it, so I kept it. When I sold the car to a guy in Ohio, I told him that I had a title, but when he went to register it they would not accept it. I almost had to buy the car back, but he finally got some kind of police inspection that allowed him to get the car registered.

PS I live about 1 1/2 hours from your car. I could go look at it if you can not find anyone else closer. Cool ride

Yeah- No title required here in Georgia. It is really nice when registering a car. Once I get one though I don't let it go so I don't know how it is selling- But I can imagine.

I've sold 6 vehicles to Gentlemen in Australia within the last 5 years. The last one was my '50 Shoebox. Because of the new import laws concerning "modified" vehicles, the buyer pulled a lot of strings just to get the paperwork started and it's been 6 months since it left my hands and he still doesnt have possesion of the car. The largest problem was the car was chopped and I had to provide an affidavit that the car was modified prior to late 80's. The car was bagged so presenting stock ride height wasnt a problem. I also had to install wipers, made sure everything functioned as stock, install hubcaps etc. Also, had to provide photos of every part of the car. We are talking about a nice, well built Kustom not something that was thrown together for a quick sell. I'm just trying to give "big hugh ness" a heads-up what he may be facing. No hate here, I wish him the best of luck.
