So our friend and fellow club member Chris who lives about 1.5hrs away has been working with this older gentleman who supposedly has some cool ****. Chris kept telling us that we need to get up there and just see what he's got and hang out for a little bit. It wasn't until a month or so ago I finally had time to get up there on a Wednesday.

So Jeremy, *****er and myself drove up and over to this guys shop with a 331 Cadillac in the bed of the truck in which Jeremy is going to have some machine work done by this particular gentleman. When we get there it was raining and Chris was outside with (let's call him Carl) Carl loading an old Ford Tractor up on the trailer. When to make a long story shorter this old man "CARL" made us work for that shop tour by loading and unloading some tractors in the pouring rain and taking it back to his shop. He's a hard working Good Ol' Boy that even in his late 70's is still pushing himself to get **** done. We all didn't mind as we were all having fun in the process anyways.

Alright so when we got back it was a little later so I couldn't get the full tour of all the buildings but I did happen to get into two of them and shoot some pics for us all to drool over. I'm stoked to have finally made a friend with an oder gentleman that has been doing this forever. It's also nice to know there's a place I can go to shoot the **** and pick up some wisdom in a setting that's fit for even the pickiest Hot Rodder.

Anyways here are some pics of his place. Edmunds and GranCore and Thickstun OH MY!!!!

Then there was this thing which was my favorite thing of the day. This Vette has been sitting since the 60's or 70's when "CARL'S" brother in law p***ed away (it was his car). They haven't touched it since and have no plans on ever driving or selling. Sad story for sure but what I damn cool car!!!!

    Thanks for the great tour.

Y'know, the hot rod world seems to be the place where I encounter the most young people offering due respect to seniors of all types for their contibutions! Thanks.

One learns how to do anything properly, through the act of making enough mistakes to finally get it right. Old guys = more mistakes than you.

Great tour. Reminded me of the many old guys with home parts stores/shops when I was coming up.

Sorry to hear this guy has so much old and obsolete stuff. From what I gather, this is just the kind of stuff that slowly decomposes over the years and, judging from it's condition, most of it is no longer serviceable. But I happen to have a large paper weight collection and if you could talk this guy into donating his dead-weight material to our collection that would be wonderful. Gary

Jeffrey, thanks for the tour of "Carl's" place. And, it appears to be a working shop with INVENTORY, not just a hoarder's collection. Fantastic.

Nothing is for sale. This man has a ton left in him and I wouldn't doubt he uses it all when it's all said and through.

Yep, he's still doing work for hire but there is two business really. One is the machine shop where he does HIS work and then there is a parts rebuild business where he has an employee do most of the work so he can focus on the engine stuff.

Any time you can spend with a guy like that is a very solid investment. Guys like that are such a huge resource- I'm not talking about the stuff in their buildings. Where these guys are truly valuable is the stuff in their heads.

Guys like this came from a time where they had to do more with less, and they got good at it, if they've stuck with it this long.

If you can get one to share their knowledge with you, you'll enjoy spending time with them. But, later on, you'll take a step back and notice how much they've changed the way you perceive and do things, and you'll realize how valuable that time spent is.

Yes, I have been blessed enough to speak from experience.

Yeah me too. Like I said, it was my favorite part of the building. I mean alone I love a '36 roadster better then a Vette but not by much haha!!! It's just that vette looks so damn cool and I wanted to sit it in but did not want to disrespect the car.

    Don't we all??

Those heads were one of those things that I had to keep going back and looking at. It's one thing to see some GranCor heads but then to see them all poished/dappered up and ready for the dance is a whole new level. They're pretty awesome that's for sure.

  28. *****in' photos, thanks for sharing Carl's stuff. The Vette's cool, but for me I'd rather have the '37 Phaeton. In my mind, I picture the Phaeton having a hopped up flatty running either those Edmunds or GranCor heads under the hood.

Haha! That's sad that I was paying more attention to the fact there was a REALLY nice '35 Ford grille on the wall instead of that Vette. I feel like an under-achiever now. HAHA!:eek:
