Yep its certainly strong now, quite light too, I'm going to fit a couple of tubes from the firewall down to the front of the frame horns, I can also use these to mount the fenders also, cheers.

 

Cheers Dave, I've done better but i wanted to get this done quick so i can get the floor in as we have one of our biggest shows in 10 days time and i wanted to show the body to any prospective customers.

Unfortunately not, was trying to get it their but ricked my neck a few days ago lifting an engine so no work for a few days till it gets better

 

Finished the firewall now, I was going to buy a sheet of polished stainless and do it it one bit but it was $155 for a 2metre x 1 metre sheet, Ended up using offcuts i had laying around, just had enough to do it in 3 pieces, its bolted in with 5mm button head bolts at the moment but these will be replaced with rivets when i have time.

I am not usually a big fan of aluminum or stainless firewalls, but this one is tits! The button heads make it really pop....

Langy, Firewall is looking really good ! I would vote to keep the button head fasteners. They look kind of simple but clean.

Guys I've been looking for pics of gassers with early type wheelie bars made from leaf springs and a wheel added through the spring eye, what I want to know is how the springs were located ???
I only have a couple of pics of them and they look like the were attached to the chassis rails as apposed to the axle casing like the modern type, anybody know or have detailed pics ???

 

No pics but I've seen a couple of them. The guys just whack one end off the springs and bolt them up to the frame rails with U bolts. Just like you would a spring pack to an axle.

 

Thats interesting about bolting to the rails, I've seen a couple of pics where they look like they are mounted on the rails but others have said they are mounted on the axle casing.

Yeah that might be. Like I said I've only seen a couple of them and thats the way they had em set up. Kinda figure they wouldn't have much leverage on the car being mounted to the axle?

 

hi steve, i wasnt paying attention there and for a split second i thought you had shoehorned another caddy motor in there, coming along nicely mate.

 

These days they are all fitted on the axle as fitting to the frame would unload the rear tyres, Not sure if they would of known that back in the day ???
