Don LaCouture (sp?) owner of Marlboro Airport!! A very good friend I have not seen for years. May be gone now. Thank you so much for this photo!! Where did you find it? Sorry to repeat the photo with a comment, but this is personally close to me. I was based there for years....in the 70s.

 

A cars show, eh? Not to disagree, but it photo also has the look of the start of a parade, or even a movie back lot with cars on hand from some flick like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, or Around the World in 80 days, or The Great Race or something similar Gary

 

What's the deal with this one? Side windows are odd, so is the side trim.

 

Its a 150 wagon. The question is... Is it a sedan delivery modified cut out for windows or a special order 150 wagon?

 

I think that one guy is me...right below the asbestos covered pipes.

 

The deal is: 1957 Chev. offered a Tudor wagon at that time, I think it was in the "210" Series.-------Don

 

In a former life, I was the first UK salesman for Bear in the UK, having worked for Blackhawk previously.

It's not a 210, I had one. Rear quarter window curved around at the rear.
The side trim is that of a sedan delivery, but a sedan delivery had completely smooth sides on what would have been the window area, it's that raised portion near the rear that has me puzzled.

Probably one of the "1957" Chevys that were still being made well into the 1980's. No doubt made in some offshore country where they still had old original GM stamping dies. Just like an old VW, why change a body style when it's still selling. I had seen this picture a while back and saved it to my hard drive. I blew it up looking for clues, but there is nothing to indicate it is not a normal 57 150 2 door wagon except for the wierd rear window and rear corner treatment. Maybe someone else could come up with more clues from the background, cause I'm still wondering.

 

John, I'm thinking the same thing. My first impression was maybe,Euorpean GM , model.
Hard to tell from the background where the picture was taken. definately not some thing from U S production.

I'll buy that. The side trim thows me as 150's had the little upright "flag" just past the door on the quarter, sedan deliveries just had the long spear. The raised panel would eliminate the need for the costly curved glass.

A buddy of mine was stationed in Turkey, he said they were still building the 57's when he was there. Can some one zoom in on the tag on the other car in the picture?

I worked in the original BEAR factory in Rock Island, IL. from 1977 until Bear and Marquette were sold in 1980 by their parent company Applied Power to a union buster. They moved it all to the Marquette factory in Bangor, PA. a few months later and that was the end of an American automotive icon.

Family photos from the 40s. Most are converted from Kodachrome slides.

Wife's grandfather was a Chrysler executive part of his time was at the old Jefferson plant (Detroit), from the 20s-early 50s. Drove mostly Chryslers, and usually convertibles. Lived in or near Grosse Pointe, MI.
