Has anyone tried or currently using Langdons trans adapter plate. From the ironglide to a standard Chevy trans? 235 inline, 1959 Any feedback?
i have the adapter plate on my 270 gmc with a 700r4 trans make sure to get the tools to aline it with
If you are using a stick with the 235, I would think the original bell housing used with 235s and a stick would work with most of the GM manual transmissions, up to the mid 70's. You may want to look into Chevy trucks with 235 and stick. Got the whole thing years ago from a 59 Chevy car (bell, clutch, trans, etc. for a 235) and then mounted the transmission to the V8 bell housing. So by doing that I would think you could do what you want with a 235 stick bell housing!
Langdon is top notch..call him he'll tell you everthing you need to know...and then there's Patrick's...also top notch...ask me how I know...
From what I have read, the 59 235, with a PG trans has a very distinct bolt pattern. Langdons sells a adapter plate that bolts on the engine, then allowing you to use a 700R or a TH350, etc. This eliminates the IronGlide for my 235. Yes, Tom is a nice guy. I was just looking for some feedback on the plate before I ordered it..Comes with a flexplate, and he suggests the starter also. http://stoveboltengineco.com/index....:category=412400&mode=product&product=1396439
Maybe it's just because I'm old, but it is hard to know you want to use a 700 when you say standard in your first post.
With you on that one Buzzard....I guess we old farts are just dazed and confused in this modern world when words don't mean what they used to....."standard trans=3 speed manual"...
If you are intending to use a modern automatic with the V8 style bellhousing pattern, then the adapter plate that Langdon sells is the one to use. make sure you take the time to verify that the center of the trans is inline with the center of the crankshaft, or you will likely ruin the flexplate. You can't just throw these things together...
Yes, you guys are correct. More info was needed. I was hoping lots of guys would know instantly what I was talking about. Thanks Mike...looks great. What size convertor did you use? Even with the adapter plate and a trans, it will still be cheaper then rebuilding the IG,....probably.
How much is the adapter plate and flexplate(I would think you would need a new one), and starter? Iron PG should be pretty damn cheap as far as parts go, and the thing is not that complicated. But it isn't the greatest transmission around!
Here's another adapter that you might check out as well: BUFFALO ENTERPRISES 25625 Dahl Road, Arlington, WA, 98223 (360) 652-7684 Transmission Adapters: * 235/261 to Powerglide, Turbo 350 & 400, Scattershield * GMC 228/302 to Powerglide, Turbo 350 & 400, Scattershield * NO Spacer Plates - 1 piece Blanchard Ground Steel * Custom Flexplates - Chevy Six and GMC Six Our Disc Brake Kits DO NOT Move The Wheels Outward
Thanks Crager... Willy's...check out my link above. It does come with a new flexplate. $410.00 with FP and starter.
Will this adapter work if you want to keep the 3 on the tree, but swap the 235 for a 305 or 350 SBC? Car is a 1959 4 door Biscayne
What about mounting the zbar? I am swapping out a 235 with 3 speed, to a 350 in my son’s car. I can’t talk him out of keeping the three on the tree vs a 4-speed so I’m concerned over connecting the bell crank.Anyone have this come up?
That bit cost me about ten minutes of hunting for a plate that he could use. A STANDARD IS FREAKIN STICK SHIFT not a regular automatic.
