Based on the headlight trim and the little bit of grille thats visible, this is a '41 Plymouth. Second best looking model year for prewar Plymouths after the 34 Plymouths.
    Thanks for posting.

In 1940 my father was commissioned to take a new Mercury and modify it. Unfortunately, I didn't ask the right questions when he was still alive as to who, what, when, etc, and everyone else who may have known is now gone. I have a few other pictures that I'll try and post, it was a pretty cool car.
( Sorry , I forgot to include the quote from Bob K)

Here are a few more pictures of the Mercury, also of the truck made from the Nash sedan shown before. Note the Dusenberg speedster on the other side of the Merc.

  12. I knew it was pre-war but wasn't sure of the year and Dad in-law and his brother are both gone. This one is wife's uncle's car; her dad had a tan colored convertible of about the same year. I haven't found the slides of it yet. They left for the war in early '42; survived and returned to open a Schwinn bicylce shop in the Detroit Mi 'burbs.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Hey Doc - Camaro? Personal what??? Guess I didn't get the memo on that one...

RaceRon, these are awesome pictures! I can't believe how clear and colorful they are from the 40's! You should treasure them forever!

  14. Thanks! Yes, they were wife's parents'. Her grandfather took thousands of kodachrome and other film slides from the late 30s thru the mid 60s, we have boxes and boxes of them and have barely started going thru and converting them to digital images. They were quite well to do and traveled a lot in the 30s and after the war in the 40s & 50s, especially to the Carribean, Cuba, Jamaica, and Brazil etc. I will be posting more as I find auto related shots.

  16. Racerron: Those are the shots that this thread is really all about. Thanks for sharing. Don't worry about the shots being "auto related"; we dig seeing shots of how people lived back in the day!

Chryco: I doubt this thread really needs your bumps! Why not contribute shots of vintage Winnipeg?

I'm guessing Auburn speedster based on the flying lady trim.

Sorry, You're right, Auburn rather than Dusenberg. Senior moment.

Never seen the movie Gross Point Blank?.................Don't worry then.

  27. Nope, haven't seen that movie Gross Point Blank, guess that's why I didn't get the reference.

And I should've been more specific and stated "...pre-official involvement by the USA in WWII".
