Does anyone know anything concerning Lewis Young? He was from Kennesaw, GA? Lewis had a killer "A" hiboy roadster back in the seventies. He is Hank Youngs' father.
I met Lewis and Hank in the 70's , Lewis did some work on my fathers 32 highboy . I remember the black highboy Lewis built ,Hanks 34 and the killer track roadster Lewis built with Phil Wren. Hank does have a website http://www.youngchoppers.com/ The drawing below by Tom Sapp is of the track roadster Lewis built with Phil Wren.
I knew Lewis Young when I lived in Atlanta. He was a fire chief who built hot rods in his spare time. The first car I saw was a black 29 hiboy roadster with a Jag rear end and lots of detail. He had a great eye for hot rods and a super nice man. I had him do some small jobs for me when I lived in Atlanta. I thought he moved to Florida a few years ago.
Lewis Young built some wonderful cars. His 29 Hiboy was my favorite car at the Nats when it debuted.Later he built a red 29 closed cab pikup with a v6 that was a knockout. He seemed to run with some talented people from Atlanta /Marietta area .One was Tom Sapp[who did the above rendering]who had a 34 5/w hiboy. He was an illustrater and made a neon script "HOTROD' emblem for his rad.orn.I admired it so much,he offered to make one for my 34 rdstr hiboy. This was 1979,and it is still on the same car and I want him to know I still cherish it. If someone who knows him, please pass this along,as I havent seen him for years. Dick Carroll
Hello, I am Lewis Young's son. He is now living on the Isle of Palms in S.C. Just outside of Charleston. He is retired and has been remodeling his house for the past several years. Does anyone know where the track roadster is located that my dad built. Any info would be great. Thanks
Lewis Young was THE MAN in the 70's, before most of this forum was born. Super underated because of his location on the east coast. His 29 roadster won best engineering at the 76 Nats and his track roadster was so far ahead of it's time, it could be dusted off today and look like a new build. Of course I'm a little biased, I'm his son too.
I met Lewis at Gatlinburg back in the 70's. He built some fantastic cars. Attempted to locate him few years ago but no luck. He lived in Kennesaw Ga back in the day. Hope he is still around and doing OK. Bob Gorby Just read Taterhead post, good to hear he is OK.
