Besides the obvious answer of using a flat-bed, does anyone know a Transport company that ships Interstate but doesn't mind taking a car that can't stop under it's own power?

Also, I'm trying to stay under $1000 to get the car from Western Washington to Bakersfield, CA.

I'm hoping somewhere in HAMB-Nation this has been encountered.

    Thanks!

You might be better off finding a local guy that uses a pickup and a trailer.

  3. Place an ad in Classifieds under Wanted
    List the specifics:
    Year - make - model
Overall actual length from bumper to bumper (not wheelbase)
Pick up & drop off zip codes
An image of the vehicle helps

Just found a Company! CASCADE AUTO TRANSPORT, and they are affiliated with three other companies in the lower 48, so if anyone else runs into this same situation, CASCADE can direct you one of the other three companies that best suits your needs.

Also, for future reference, I just learned that they refer to cars like this as 'INOPERABLE' vehicles. So to save yourself some hassle be upfront with each transport company that it's inoperable.

    CASCADE quoted $885.

Not bad considering the alternative in the case of this car was to buy the new suspension/brakes WAYYYY sooner than anticipated ($1500), installing it (8 hours), then getting charged $600 for shipping.

  5. i had to move a couple of cars last spring that were "INOP". i could'nt find a company that would haul an "inoperable" vehicle, did'nt make much sense to me.
    i just did it myself.

  6. The HAMBODEX is a good place to look. A lot of fellas on here that haul for a living and they are used to our junk vehicles.

I have had cars shipped and a couple where Inoperable. All these companies charge a INOP fee some where between 100 and 150 bucks. I shipped and Inop chevy over 800 miles and including the inop fee it came to around $780. The guys I used was Road Kings. They where good. Be sure to research these companies bacause I have been screwed before, No respect for the vehicle and ended up causeing frame damage. That was a friggin nightmare. I hope this is helpfull.
