Probably the longest known HAMB Lurker in existence!

I've been into this hot rod and custom thing my whole life. I've probably been lurking on Ryan's sites longer than anyone. I first came across the Jalopy Journal back when it was fresh on the interwebs.

It was the first thing that was designed and cool looking when I searched for a hot rod site. Back then I was more impressed by Ryan's web design than anything else.

So why has it taken so long for me to register on the HAMB? Probably the fact that every time in the past that I thought of commenting on something, I usually see people get bashed or the topic strays far from it's origins.

Although I think it is amazing to have a free-form forum like the HAMB, I also see wrong information traded back and forth and that really bothers me.

My dad Alan still has and drives his 24T Coupe that was finished in the early 60s. It was in R&C in the early 70s. My Aunt and uncle are well known Artist/ Hot Rodders, Robert and Suzanne Williams.

Anyway you might know me or my name from a number of things. I'm a member of the Burbank Choppers. I've been involved with a few book projects, including the Green Rat Fink/Ed Roth book and also Von Dutch; An American Original. I've also contributed, written, photographed and designed for a bunch of different car mags. A very proud moment in my hot rod life was co-curating the first ever gallery exhibition of Von Dutch's work.

You might have even caught my mug on TV or a DVD. I own the following cars; 32 Ford 5-window, 27T coupe "Bad News" and a 60 Ford Starliner.

My current day job is Art Director for Rod & Custom magazine, and also overseeing the Art end of Street Rodder, Custom Classic Trucks and Classic Trucks. Anyway that's some of my life. Thanks for listening.

  5. Aaron,

About time one of you Burbank delinquents showed up around here. Love your Deuce Five-window, used to stare at it alot at Viva when mine was still a project. Still have a photo I snapped of it on the shop door.

    Welcome from Gunnison Colorado !

now's your chance to set 'em straight (or add to the confusion....)

    Welcome

  8. Aaron,

You're right, and unfortunately, it's getting worse. Can't say, "it's a nice day" around here without some clown pissing all over your shoes, then telling you how stupid you are. And then, the insults drive the thread off topic. My friend Charlie says: "You have Two ears and One mouth, you listen twice as much as you talk". Sound advice.

Regardless, ignore the hate brigade and enjoy the HAMB, I learn new stuff around here all the time. Both, things to do, and things not to do.

    Johnnie.

  9. WELCOME!!!! I saw Brian's DVD of the East and West Coast Hot Rods and was really impressed with your '32...I also have a 5-Windo in my garage. You will see my Hot Rod in Brian's next video, and an interview with my husband, Ron....

WOW! Welcome! I wouldn't have thought you still a lurker.
First saw you (and the other Choppers) on the episode of Rides, where you put together "Bad News". One of the few, albeit subtle, influences that started me down the path of the Traditional scene.

    No need to lurk anymore!

Now if we can get the rest of your club-mates to stop lurking...

Welcome to the HAMB.You obviously can contribute and know what you're getting into?
    The forum is changing.
The people who stroke their ego and hijack threads rarely have anything to add anyways...

Welcome to the hamb. For all its' wonders and faults it is an amazing place, it never fails to humble me with its' depth - some depths are better than others, i'll admit, but that is what makes it sweet.

Welcome Aaron Glad to see you here. I've been a member for a little while but haven't contributed much yet for the same reasons bad expeirences on other forums and this is a pretty good sized one. That means lots of lets say opinions. But seems to be alot of good people and info here. Did you guys ever do anything with that turtle back shell we sent out several years back. I hope sometime soon to make it out to Cali for the Hot Rod Reunion with my dad when he goes out get to meet you guys face to face rather than writitng. I know dad usually catches up with Fisher when he's out. Welcome again and thanks for carrying the flame at Rod & Custom Talk at ya later.

Welcome Aaron from the far north.I've enjoyed your work in the mags and on T.V. Maybe it's the Canadian way but I just ignore the whiners/bitchers and enjoy/learn from the rest.

Feels weird welcoming you, as you have been an inspiration to me. This wonderful hobby has very little, modern archives to watch on traditional HotRodding as you know. I have watched the Darwas film you were in over and over. I also got to meet some of the choppers at the GNRS this Jan. Anyway WELCOME and please stick around, your contributions Im sure will be more than worthy!!!
