I know from '50-'57 they are. Not positive about 40's but I would imagine they are very similar.

I had an S years ago that I was working on making a rod out of. I sat it over onto a '78 Malibu Wagon frame. The "ears" on the bottom of the cab sat right down over the frame rails, and the overall width looked like it would have worked fine. It had a SBC and T350 in it, but the wheelbase was a little short for my taste, IIRC. I didn't take pics...sorry!

This is may second '56 Travelall. Just bought this mostly restored Vehicle about 6 weeks ago.[IMG]BD240 was replaced with a BG240. All drive train refurbished, but the final 2 part drive gear in the NP201 transfer case is noisy, as they all are. Will remove it and weld it in the near future (Yes, I have done this repair before and it held up in the previous Travelall for 200,000 miles.)

I am also going to upgrade the vehicle a bit to make it more drivable. Going to Saginaw power steering and a power brake set up. No kits, just scrounged parts. Also switching from the Holley 1904 single to the Holley dual throat 350 cfm ( just pulled a blank on the number) 2300 series. Removing and storing the bumpers and fabricating HD bumpers from 6" channel. Adding spare tire carriers both front and rear bumpers. Also adding additional fuel tanks to try to get to 100 gallons onboard. Thirty right now; previous vehicle I fabricated my own tanks and got her up to 80 gallons.

Been working on a 1956 S-120 for a couple months or so just as a kool parts runner and fun truck. Started out with a decent runner (green) and a parts truck (grey). The Final product came out pretty nice for a quick redo and didnt take too much work to get done. I ended up doing a clutch and full tune up, brakes and of course the old elbow grease cleaning and quick paint. I was even able to use some old parts, odds and ends i've had sitting around for years to finish it up.

There is a guy in Washington state who took his '56 S120 Travelall and mounted it on a Ford Expedition frame and installed a 6BT diesel in it. Runs it on waste vegetable oil. Not truly finished yet, but he drives it and it looks right! Bill USN-1 hangs out on Binder Planet.
