Someone out something in my gas tank...Anyone know what it is?

Okay so someone put something in my gas tank. Any and all replies would be appreciated. It ruined my old motor (spun bearing) now I have found out it is something in the gas. The color has a yellowish greenish tint and when it is lit on fire it leaves a oily residue behind that has a cleaner type smell. Does anyone know possibly what it could be or ever heard of this happening. I thought at first linseed oil but since it isn't burning away I ruled that out. Please help....

Was there any remnant of the substance on tank filler hole? Gas normally has a yellowy color --especially old gas.

 

How do you suppose it got from the gas tank to the bearing?

Antifreeze will do that. vapors past the rings will infiltrate everywhere so a spun bearing isn't out of thr question. Usually you"ll get scuffed and broken rings first though.
Sugar and mothballs are not soluable in gas or alchol.

 

It sounds like a blown head gasket, and you oil was contaminated by antifreeze. Was there a sweet sickening smell coming from the exhaust? I really don't thik there was a conspiracy just bad luck.

 

Yep. Have you tried a locking gas cap? Just to confirm there is no foul play.

 

This is more or a greenish color than yellow and darker. The gas was new as well. Not soapy but more oily. No debris per say but oily wetness that is consistent with the contents of the tank. The fuel was causing the car to shut off because it wasn't burning consistently and the only way it would re-fire is at WOT and I'm sure that I ruined the motor by spinning the bearing. We are working on testing the fuel but it is expensive. I am really just stumped and thought someone might know of something different...

Sounds Like Antifreeze to me...blown head gasket or cracked head.

 

Antifreeze won't burn. Dump a little (very small amount) of your gas on a surface that does not burn and try to light it off. We ran into a car where someone put antifreeze in the gas, we held a light torch to the "fuel" puddle and it still wouldn't burn. The antifreeze loaded fuel had the sweet antifreeze odder instead of a gas smell and was a light green-yellow color. Gene

 

A blown head gasket wouldnt change the makup of the gas in his tank.

But i guess something in the tank could eat away the head gasket, right?

What about something like a drain cleaner? That would mess up the engine. I used a hair clog remover recently that had a yellow tint.

 

I've got to agree that if anything was put in the gas tank that it would show up on the valves/piston tops/cylinderwalls, not spin a bearing. And I would guess that something that left an oily substance wouldn't do much harm there. It would take something that left a gritty or ?? residue. Or something that screws with the octane numbers and burns a hole in a piston.

For something to affect the bearings, it would have to be put in the oil pan.

I'm by no means a mechanic or a chemist but I would guess that you have been the victim of an asshole with a bottle of Simple Green. This chemical is a house hold cleaner that smells like the forest but is petroleum based and will give the oily appearance but it does not burn very easy either. The chemical make up of this cleaner is harsh enough to break down engine grease.

 

i was gunna say that, simple green could be a bit slick or 'oily' i believe and its GREEN as hell, you can get it in consentrate as well, im sure THAT wouldnt be to good in a motor

 

Did you somehow mistakenly fill up with Diesel Fuel? Diesel has a greenish tint to it,and is kinda oily feeling.....

 

Diesel fuel meets the description, green color, poor running, etc.

 

i know one way to really mess up an engine is to put Iodine in the fuel. burns so hot it will put hole in the piston. BTW not my personal experience but i know whose it was.

x3 on diesel. if you can, get a sample from the tank. diesel an gas will separate and the gas will stay at the top.

 

I'm pretty sure there's nothing you can put in a gas tank that will spin a bearing.

 

i think the bearing issue may have been coincidental.

Bleach will do a lot of harm to your motor but that would corrode the gas tank. Im not sure what the aftermath would be with the fluids though.
