Hy on all Flatty Guys, Maybe anybody drives a org. winfield 5T Flathead Cam? Good or better a cam with more lift? How much max. Rpm with this Cam? What say the Power? i have a org. winfield 5T Cam, but my 59Ab Engine has a Full Port Job! Intake Manifold, Intake channels, exhaust channels, Cylinder full port. Maybe someone hase experience or equivalent with a isky ore another cams!? I dont like to drive a Blower!!! So let me know: Thanks Marco
No, the cam is only stampet with org. ford 5T and Winfield. its a good job, all of the same level! but no numbers. only the org. numbers!
OK...go get a dial indicator and a degree wheel! This is going to be an interesting experience, but not too hard! Also will need some Winfield catalog numbers to see what sor to checking clearance was used on the possibilities... Also, real Winfield name stamp is very nicely made. All I've seen also have the model designation. If the name is ragged looking, stamped letter by letter with standard punches, this is likely a Winfield patterned cam done by some other grinder. Lots of people have made Winfield style cams since he became inactive, with varying degrees of authenticity.
Now . . . I just have to wonder . . . you're not looking at this cam on the Bay are you http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-...402807QQ_trksidZp5197Q2em7QQitemZ120718493812 As Bruce said, the 5T is a casting number - has nothing to do with Winfield. If you're looking at the one on eBay, I can't see what it is . . . doesn't seem to have the letters/numbers that Winfield would have. Though that does look like a real Winfield stamp (have a couple of his cams - know what they look like). Personally, Winfield cams are kind of conservative - fine for a lower cube engine that is built more like a '3/4' engine . . . but I'm not terribly excited about them if you're really building a bigger engine, is ported/relieved, etc.. There are much better options for a bigger stroker motor. If you have a Winfield cam - clean the snout area off as good as you can and see if you see any other letters/numbers on it.
These charts will give you a good reference and also comparison from brand to brand. Winfield got his cam numbers by dividing the advertised duration by 4, example-268 div. By 4=67. Pat
Hy @ Bored&Stroked no, it is not this cam from Bay! ;-) I Buy this cam for a long Time here in Hamb. the Guy say it is a Org.Winfield R Cam but i dont know! One Number is on the shaft. 29A. (this is a org. Ford Number). Theres some differences from a 29a cam to another org. Flathead cams? It was an org. 29a Camshaft in my 48 100HP 59Ab Flatty! Tomorrow i will make some Pics from the cam and look the degree with a degree wheel and post the result! The Charts from the Camshafts is verry cool! ;-) THANKS for this Maybe one drive a selfmade Cam in his Flatty? let me know. and dont forget: my flatty have a full Port Job and no Blower! I hope i have no Problems with the lower Compression. i will drive some High Compression Heads!
