Well i got her home and got her situated in the garage. I have been collecting parts since January. I had the notion to thrash on it and take it to Round Up but I finished my Burb instead. Plans are bags, disc brakes, either a LS1 and 6 speed manual or a small block and 3 speed manual. I have the small block and trans so that may be the route.[IMG]

My family gave me one of the Henrob torches for Christmas. I've been practicing, but my cuts don't look that clean yet. The welds are starting to look better than mig welds, but I need work on the cuts.

Cool ride, the ls swap with the 6 speed would be cool depending on the build. But you cant go wrong with an sbc and 3-4 speed. Will be watching your build.

  14. I got one of those torches years ago when they were called Dillon. You've got a long and useful relationship ahead of you. Don't drop it the brass head can break off. I like the sloper Chevies.

Makes me miss my 50 fleet line. Even though it's a tough a chop could look nice on that car.

  17. I like your car. I'm also jealous since you appear to be able to work on your car. Enjoy yourself as you never know when fate will take that ability away. I farted around too long and now it's too late to do the things I want to do to mine. Keep at it and get it done and enjoy the shit out of it. Agree a chop would look great on it but I know that's a pretty big job on that car. I would also go with the SBC.

  18. please tell me you are not keeping the body on cement blocks. VERY UNSAFE....

Well I got it all braced up today to put her on the rotisserie. I had some issues with the floor and it was suggested in this thread ( http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=591446 ) that I put it back on the frame to brace her up.

so I did. I also pulled the windshield and back glass.

Floors really weren't as bad as I thought. Now that I have gotten past this distraction I can get back to the frame. I'll be starting with the notch then trailing arms.

The LS thing would be cool. There is a reason they are so popular. It might not make many friends around here, but it will certainly leave a few more friends named Benjamin in your wallet at the ol' gas pump.

Not to mention the improved drivability... I put an L29 454 and a 4L80E in my Suburban and that truck gets better mileage than my (lighter) small block powered truck on the same octane and I don't have to sit and let it warm up.

I'm going to go ahead and cast my vote for the small-block with the 3-speed.

Haven't done much to the car. I was fighting the Vintage Air and Rear A/C on my Suburban all freaking summer...I think I have that all licked. Back to the car.

I'm posting in case some of you were losing sleep over the drivetrain in this car....A decision was made on the powerplant. I acquired a 250 6 cylinder and 3 speed trans out of an early 70's truck. It will need a rebuild but won't look as out of place.

Kool build. I like that body style especially with a chop. Can't wait to see the finished product!

If you must use cement blocks, set them like they are used in building a foundation.

  30. I'd vote for the LS with the T56. Picked one up in Tulsa last winter and ya can't beat the milage and HP combo. Don't have it in anything yet but that's next. Hide the coil packs and put on finned valve covers if ya like that look! Keep us posted....
