This is an enhanced section of that photo.(enhanced to be able to read it.. not to make it looks nice Bob Drake had a copy of this photo which I scanned on our Jack Stewart Research trip. Unfortunately I cant read the card on Gil's 1940 Mercury. Jack Stewart "Kustom Club" Los Angeles "Grand Champion Award Winner"
Cool thread guys, I dig it the most! Does anyone have any pix of a 41 pontiac 2 dr sedan? I get mine in a couple of weeks and would love to do it right! RodL
Here is also a 1941 Pontiac that Link Paola did for Dean Batchelor in 1942...this one is pretty mild though:
Here is another photo of the Ron Brooks Collection. Last week I posted another photo of this 1938 Lincoln Convertible. This time the car has its Hall Top removed. The lines on this 1940's Customs are just so perfect!...
Here is my 49 Dodge, 10" windshield and padded top, got sent to the crusher by dad before I could finish it.
I really like this car that I get to be custodian of for a while. Please don't ask me sales questions on this thread. I am just sharing here. A rare real 1937 Club Cabriolet 40's style custom done by Gene Winfield for Bill Victor of Victor Gaskets/Dana Corp. Leaned back windshield, pulled in and moulded running boards, lowered a little, chopped top for height and better lines, custom antenna, *tops of the doors were modified to curve like the back quarter, slight chrome touches under the hood, all the interior garnish mouldings and top bows and pieces chromed. I did have the interior redone, the velour had to go. Sorry. Trust me. Dave Martinez stitched it up. I bought it from his daughter after his passing. The one car he would not sell. I fell in love with it when I bought that old 40 Conv. chopped, channelled, pancaked hood, etc etc from him in boxes years ago that I put together and drove around. loved that car.
I was loaned some great photos today , and thought this was great for this thread.1946? Lincoln Continental, Nor-Cal East Bay ,probably a Hall Top. Thanks to Mike Peters for the loan of his fathers photos.
Very nice mild Custom Lincoln. Those Caddy rear fender ends look really nice on the car, never would have thought about that. Please than Mike Peters for sharing those amazing photos from his father.
Here is an old snapshot of a very nice Mild customized 1941 Chevy convertible from the later part of the 1940's. The hood has been completely smoothed which gives the whole car a new very clean look. The two tone paint job is very nicely done, and gives an visual impression of fade away fenders. Single bar flipper hubcap on white wall tires and a rear stock stance. Not visable in this photo is the sunken license plate in the trunk. A typical 1940's mild Custom that you could see driving around at any time...
Love the thread guys, keep it coming! Am I dreaming or was there another thread that catered to 30's and 40's cars built as customs in the 50's?
Great, Rik! Bookmark, of course. Would be great to see you again soon! No plans for OSW this year? Cheers J.B.
post #515 by rodncustom posted a couple of pictures and one of the shots showed the inside.. what gauges were available during this time period. that cock pit looks loaded.. way more stuff than what my dads rust free 48 ford has.. now i see what my dad sees in that 48 ford 2 door.. i thought it was always rather generic, I do like the rear window on it being split tho.. maybe one day he will get to work on it now he is gonna retire in the next year or so. great thread. p.s post 550 gives me hope.. built in his back yard.. ill be doing the same on my project i plan to start this fall.. as the shop is full of wood working stuff and my dads train room. nice car!!!!
