No, the rear spring is just tired: I have a non reversed '40 spring that will take it's place. The plan is for less leaves for softer ride. Also, hydralic shocks will be replacing the friction shocks.
Oh, One more thing Rolf. It needs a Tri-Power intake. Unless you like that carb. It would fill out that engine compartment better. Now look what you started. I am rebuilding your car for you one piece at a time.
This is an old Olds wheel cap. So What?? I thought it would make a fun air cleaner top... This is a VW cap that I "inverted" and welded on a tube. I welded some tabs on the inside to center the filter There you go...Olds air cleaner for the Olds engine...Uh, I got side tracked...you never get sidetracked?? Back to regularly scheduled programming...
True, but the plan calls for a full hood and fenders. I like the dependability of the single carbs, and the world is full of tri-powers. What I am doing this spring is just a "quickie" to get it driving nice for this season. Here is what I am thinking in the long run:
Am I the only one that likes factory 4bbls on vintage engines? I think the old carbs are super bad ass and they look cool on these old engines. Nice dress up Rolf!
I'm glad to hear the good news about your wife. You have a great eye and flawless execution. It looks a hell of a lot better. Keep us informed.
Hi Rolf. I am so glad your wife is doing great, after all that is most important. When Rob told me that you had bought the car I was thrilled; Your A was nuts on! I changed the car up a bit after the magazine cover and got hot on early drag racing. I was shooting for that look for an early drag event, thus the number and lettering. I love what you have done to the car, and look forward to riding in it and not having to wear my mouth piece. I love all flavors of these cars so keep up the great work; It is a really cool.
Nice work Rolf. It looks great now and did before, just a little different personality. Want to race? Never mind.....
Like your air cleaner very Kool the stance is right on.Also glad your wife is doing better an wish you guy's the best.
Holy shit I thought it looked familiar. I gotta be honest the way it was in the magazine is just about dead nuts perfect. I love that early drag racing look with level stance and the "fenders". Cool.
That's just it, Mike...I like them in many versions, no one is right or wrong. As always, any hot rodder has to make it "his" anyway. Look forward to meet you down the road.
No, no... I have great respect for lights and what it can do. Brightness, glass fluting and proper adjustments are KEY when it comes to lights. Being born and raised in Europe where the STATE will do annual MANDATORY inspection of your lights among other this will drill that stuff in to you.
Rolf, I was only joshin' ya. Don't you remember my sense of humor or have I been gone too long? Full hood will be great. I would love to see a race between you and Doug.
First off, I am glad that your wife is well. Having a loved one with cancer is not for the faint of heart. Now the coupe, a great looking car with a really nice stance. I would keep the fog lights. Luck to you and your wife.
So happy to hear the good news and see you back on the HAMB with a fresh project. My current build is getting a pair of amber Guide fog lamps wired as turn signals. Like you, I am not 100% on them yet. But they are growing on me.
Hey Rolf . . . nice to see you back, GREAT to hear things are looking up for your wife and that you're working on old tin once again. Best of luck with your projects. B&S
Next time I visit my sister in Redmond I'm gonna come over and drool on you car. Just a warning, I don't want you to be surpised. Do you have all the parts you need? Is there any thing your looking for? Jeff
You've got the perfect set of headlights for that thing...Guide 903J's. Personally, if it were mine, I'd lose the fog lights...at a glance it looks like canted quads from the early 60's...ugh.
The Rolf Coupe is still one of my favorite hot rods ever, and one deserving of some magazine ink. I cant wait to see the roadster. Im glad youre back, and Im sorry to read about why you disappeared in the first place. Im looking forward to future posts from a rodder I greatly admire. -Dave
Welcome back - all the best to your wife for her recovery. I for one am very excited to see you sharing your work again, I've re-read the Rolf Build post many times and find your work inspirational. I know I'm not alone. ~ Carl
