Ok I'll apologize before I even get started. Ive been out of town and have not updated this thread for a while but here it is. I guess better late than not at all. Most of you saw it at the torque fest but here's how he made the door skins.

Here's a pic of the toe board that goes between the floor and firewall.

Here he is putting a step in the toe board around the hole for the pedals to go through on the pullmax.

Here he is pounding a door skin out on the homebuilt Yoder hammer.

Next he puts a flange on the edges of the door skin.

Here he cuts the outside of the top of the door skin off and makes a new one to make the gaps just exactly right on.

Here is the finished top half of the door skin

Here's where he put the top half and bottom half together.

The door skins all welded together and ready to put on.

He sprays the inside of the doors and inside of the new skin with lizard skin insulation before putting them together.

Now you can scroll up the page to see the finished doors on the truck at the torque fest. Enjoy

  16. Again... friggin' amazing!

What's the story on Jimmy? Besides these art-to-road creations... what else has he done, or does he do?

    Maybe we need another thread!

I gather that the door skins are "file finished" prior to coating the insides? Is this correct?
    Thanks

Yes The door skins are not only file finished but they are straight and basically completley done except for puting them together with the door frame.

    Ok
Here's the latest with Jimmy and Lit up. He's been working on the cab corners, the bed sides, The hood, the radiator support and mocking up the front end. He has made the inside and outside of the cab corners, welded them in and finished them off. Quite impressive.

Here he mocks up the bed side with the rear fender to check it out.

Next he tackles the bed sides. Wanting to make things move along a little faster he thinks it will be easier to buy the bed sides and make them work. But after getting them he realizes they aren't what he had in mind so he makes some new ones. The only think he uses off the reproduction sides is the very top roll and makes the rest. Here's a pic of the reproduction bed side with the top roll already cut off.

This is a pic of the begining of his homemade bed side. He make it like this with no corners so he can put the raised middle section in the brake and then makes the corners. First he cuts it out on the laser.

Then he makes a die to make the corner pieces to complete the raised midddle section.

Here the sides and corners are all formed and ready to weld together

    Next he welds everything together.

Here it is trimed and metal finished.

The top one is his and the bottom one is the one he bought with the top roll trimmed off so he can weld it on his.

Here he's holding the top roll off the reproduction next to his home made side.

Next he starts to section the hood. He cut's a total of 3/4" out of the hood.

Here he starts welding it back together and filling the vents on the side.

Here he mocks it up on the truck to check the fit. Notice he hasn't filled the vents yet. The magic marker line on the fender is where he might have to trim it because the tires won't turn properly. The truck will have a very low stance.
