If you didn't catch what some of these guys were saying, hook up with some of the locals - be they part of clubs or individuals - and see if they'll help you out with some of what you're needing done. Find an 'old fart' who can help to check over the things that need to be safe for you to drive it, then have him help line you out on what needs to be done in the order of greatest need.

Many of these guys have shops and would be willing to trade you for apprentice work in their shop - you work for them, then they work for you - or even better - they help YOU work on YOUR car in their shop. I don't know it all, but if you were here and could build some (or even help me) build some fence, I'd offer you up damned near all of my tools, shop, and help you chase parts. The barter system is awesome.

You got bit in the ***, it happens. How you recover from it will help to define your character as a man. Good luck!

Lemon laws wouldn't apply, but fraud would. You'd have to prove it was misrepresented, and unless it was all written down in print, then it would be his word against yours. If it ain't in writing it don't exist!

  7. Don't worry about all that. I don't have a garage either and my project was sitting in the snow for 3 months. Pep boys is a great place to find some good beginners tools and if you have any swap meets in your area its a great start to find parts or even manuals. By the time the car is right where you want it, you will be proud that you built something up yourself even if you got cheated. The car does look great though. I don't think you have much to worry about.

My advice, even though it seems impossible when your low on funds, is to to buy good quality tools. I'm not saying that you need to buy the most expensive ones out there, but good tools will be used everyday then p***ed on to your grandson. Plus if you have ever had a cheap wrench break in your hand, you will never try to pinch pennies on tools ever again.

Yeah that fan doesn't do much of anything and I have no room behind the radiator because of it's long water pump so I was thinking of either getting a better electric fan or putting in a new water pump and going with a conventional fan. Anyways, I hope I didn't give you guys the wrong impression, I've done all the work to it so far, it's just metal/body I was going out for. You guys have motivated the **** outta me and I feel just about ready to pull the motor out now! I think I'm gonna try and talk my old man into giving me the garage and fixing it up, maybe getting a nice little eastwood or lincoln welder, and getting to it myself. I'll take pics of the trunk tomorrow so you can throw some ideas at me. Thanks for all your advice and support, I hope to one day have a H.A.M.B badge on my firewall one day!

Flip the letters, and clean the **** out of those wheels ( which I find pretty cool) They look like the astro chrome slots. Cut a coil or two out of the nose (while doing a quick shake down for safety). put a little 2 inch lowering block in the back, and drive the darn thing. I think i just listed about 30 bucks worth of improvements that would pretty good difference!!!check out the link below for some inspiration!!

Yeah I'll flip them again but with that shock coming through the floor the way it is, I really don't wanna drive the car much at all

Haha, that was a brutal thread, I especially like the fng lame *** speed shop logo. I may have to use that as my new avitar. FYI to the op there are two places to mount the radiator on 56s by either swapping out the radiator support for the 150 one or they make adaptor brackets. Should help your ckearance issues. If it is the stock radiator I would put a new aluminum one in if your running that bigger motor. Timing will also cause it to overheat. Are you running a mechanical or electric fan?

    Great advice from everyone.

I'd still rather over pay for an old car than for a new car!

It's just the electrical fan in there. Yeah the inline sixes had rad's in fron of the support and would help the clearance issue but I don't wanna mess with the trans lines (just yet) I was thinking of gettign a nice aluminum down-flow and a bigger push fan

Okay, just looked at your pictures. I would recommend moving your radiator in front of your radiator support and running a regular mechanical fan off the front of your motor like gm designed. It should keep it cooler than your current setup. Danchuck sells the brackets, or you can just buy some flat stock and drill some holes. Not much to them. Someone posted earlier that there is an aftermarket rear shock swaybar type bracket or something so the rear shocks don't mount to the floor. Any pics or part #s??

Looks like a decent car from the pictures you posted. Whats with this shock through the floor ****?

Yeah any info on that shock bracket would be a big help. Would it be better (cheaper) to switch to a short water pump or move the radiator?

or in this case when life gives you lemons chop them up and have fun doing it. It's all a big learning process. I'm rebuilding my first car now 20 plus years after the first build--it'll be a helluva lot better than the first one, but I wouldn't be able to do it now if it weren't for that one and every one in between.

    ??? Really?

Before you "get to it" and fire up the torch like a jack *** keep asking questions. Focus on driving the car, and what it will take to allow you to do so safely and reliably.

There are plenty of guys on here who spend more time on the key board than in the garage, and would be happy to help you out.
