Yep! It's an Anglia 4dr. sedan. In the 2dr they're Anglias, and in the 4dr they're a Prefect. Almost identical to my Austin 4dr sedan:
The price seems reasonable, but they're not as popular as a 2dr Anglia. The Prefects are longer than the Anglia 2dr's., and also longer than the Austin 4dr's. My Austin in a 4dr. is the same size as the Anglia in a 2dr.
mini version of the english ford v8 pilot there are ford 8@10 hp clubs around the world starting with the1932 Ford Y through the Ford C Populars and Prefects
We had them in Australia postwar, they were fairly common. Four cylinder English car designed in the US built in England and sent out to the Colonies. I am fairly sure they were sent in parts to Australia and then ***embled here with local sourcing of some parts, similar to the Chev/ Holden Bodyworks deal of the same time. Thats where my Chev Utility with Body by Holden Tags originated. All in the name of creating jobs after the war.
They can be vastly improved with a Ford Popular/Anglia nose on them. And then turned into a g***er - that helps heaps too
No, it's Prefect. In British English a Prefect is, if I remember correctly, a student at a school with some powers for discipline, etc.. Sort of like a head student. I think it equates to a Proctor in America.
2nd post today on Prefects... kind of odd. I know where a rust free body is at for a very reasonable price, been debating on jumping on it for a few years, but haven't pulled the trigger. cool cars if you ask me.
The Prefect was the tall guy that you and four of your mates would beat up for being......well, a Prefect.
History...the prefect was briefly popular as a gas cl*** car because its wheelbase put it into legal territory with the NHRA. Pretty soon the extreme crowd popularity of the gas cl*** in early sixties and the adoption of the Anglia by the big teams forced NHRA to allow the shorter car. And real soon after that, gas cl*** was pretty well blown off the popularity chart by super stockers, modified productions, muscle cars, and early funny cars...late models took over and rods were forgotten for a few years.
In England? I am sure that the name had something to do with a marketing strategy. Anything light is good g***er material but these have a recognizabel look to them. When they were first allowed to run in gas cl***es here they were limited to small displacement motors a large quan***y of them ended up with SBC because of the displacement rule. That's just extra information not asked for because I felt like typing.
I'll sell this one! Hell............... You're in PA.... One State Over! And it's All Fibergl*** One Piece Body!!
I never saw the hotrod in them in the day here in Aussie, you know 4 cylinders 0-35 in 3.5 minutes, but.....mmmm
heres a local ( new zealand) auction site .. current auction and not too badly priced http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Ford/prefect/auction-376467155.htm luck =)
They're a little English Ford 4 door sedan, made from the mid 30's until early 50's. there's several different front clips that I believe fit all the Prefect bodies, including the Anglia 2 door front clip. there were also 2 rear body stylkes, a flatback and a hump back like the Anglia. The main problem with rodding them is the narrow track, all the suspension bits need to be narrower, and the diff ends up real narrow! OK, here's a few pics... Cheers, Glen.
