    The tricycle rims look like pretty much any Harley front wheel made a bit wider, but the drop center would kinda kill it for me. But thanks for the idea! Maybe some one will discover the "magic bullet"for the cheap Buffalo vibe! All we can do is keep thinking.

    When you get down to it its not that hard to make a wire wheel. I would definatly try it out if I had the time. Making the hub wouldnt be that big of a deal with a good lathe, milling maching with index head. You could make the spokes if you couldnt buy them in the length you wanted but I would rather buy some because you are going to need a bunch of them. The hard part for me would be getting the holes in the rim, even and in the right spot. But I could make a jig so I only had to think about it one time. I respoked a few bike rims when I was younger :) You can do anything with the right machine tools!

    Also, would somebody please explain to me the whole clincher/demountable/drop-center progression? Aren’t ‘27 Ford wires drop center rims? When did the drop center come on the scene?

    I guess this is the best way to explain the different styles. The '26-27 T wires are drop center wheels, not sure when the style began making it's appearance. I believe the Drop-Center design has to do with strength of the rim....harder to bend.

    [​IMG]Fairly sure that is the Pinky Randal Mercury bodied T, anyone know how much differance there was in the Ford/Chevy version? ............Yes, this photo makes up for the Harley trike photo.:)

  10. NOt much from what I understand- will have to make a phone call and find out. Bob, are you sure that it's a T? Every pic I've seen has it marked as a Chevrolet.

    Maybe the body itself was intended for a T, but the aluminum radiator shell, disc wheels, and parallel front leaf springs all say “Chevy” to me. In fact, the guy who sold me the Chevy engine had a complete '26 Chevy four-door sedan he was trying to sell, and it wore all the same parts.

    And Mac, while that would be cool, I think I’m sticking with a Ford chassis. I bought the engine to complement the chassis, after all, not the other way around. Right now I vacillate between a ‘26 done up sort of like that Chevy speedster, or a ‘23-‘25 done sort of like Corn Boy’s.

    I have a Back Burner Project of this sort so I will ask on this Thread if any of you out there have or know where i can get a couple Parts.

    I need a set of 4 Plymouth Wires to fit the Early 5 on 6" Dodge bolt pattern.

    And an '18~'22 Dodge Roadster Body .... Want a Real Roadster & not a cut down Touring Body.

    drop center also gives the bead a place to go when mounting the tire...if it wasn't there you would wreck the tire mounting it...great thread guys ...

    Hmm... These appear to be drop-center rims. I've been examining vintage pics lately, and see a fair number of this type of wheel. Could it be they're more appropriate than we think?

    I suppose this car isn't exactly a Gowjob, but this Mercury speedster's body and some of the details, fenders windshield, etc, sure look nice. Is there a source for any of this stuff now? Collectors, old parts? I've seen some glass bodies that look close but not much more. Thanx, Gary

    I thought I had a deal to buy a Multy Aldrich style spring perch from a guy, but I haven't heard back from him in a while and I suspect the deal fell through. I suppose one could be bent up easily enough with a big vise and a torch. Anybody done it?

    Alternately, how about welding tabs on a Model A crossmember and bolting it to the front of a T frame? Maybe that would be too ugly...

  29. saw one where a guy took a rear cross member, sectioned it, cut the ends off it and bolted in place up front. He also unriveted the front cross member/engine mount and moved it back to accomodate the new front cross member. kinda slick

    requires a bit more work as you have to make a spacer to make up the space where the front spring doesnt fit perfectly up in the rear cross member, but this can be fabbed out of hard wood.

    That's what I did. Although I put a perch out front. I'd seen a few vintage racers done in a similar fashion. To me, it looks decent. It's different than what we see every day, for sure.
