    Old LA
1 Exterior view of the Vine Street Theatre. Banner hanging from the front of the theatre reads. "Andy Wright presents, Philadelphia, all star cast. Matinees, Thurs. and Sat." Note the Savoy Auto Park adjacent to the theatre. Parking rates are 15 cents a day or $4.00 a month.
2 Olive Street between 4th and 5th Streets in 1928, looking south toward Pershing Square and the Biltmore Hotel. Cars are seen, and a Savoy Auto Park is at right. Also at right is a small German-speaking church, the First German United Methodist Church (Deutsche Evangelisch Methodistiche Kirche), founded in 1876
3 Four views of the exterior and the operation of the El Patio Auto Laundery. B.K. Gillespie was president of the company and the patented auto wash system was called the "Gillespie System

3 In 1904 Covina members of the Valley Auto Club paraded in their wheezing "horseless carriages" before their startled neighbors. Tomorrow, October 14, 1934, old-timers will drive the old gas buggies again and join with townspeople in celebrating Covina's 50th anniversary. The celebration will last four days. The photo shows the early automobiles of the Valley Auto Club lined up to sally forth on a thrilling excursion through the Covina valley.

I have nothing further to offer on the subject. I apologize to those who were offended by historical Packard design information and who regard it as pissing in someone's boots. If this were a discussion of the parking light placement on a '46 vs '48 Ford, you may have found it less boring :)

Well said, 231Ramona! It was '70s cheap junk like THAT which made me certain I'd chosen the right hobby in EARLY V.T.!

But tech-wise and marketing-wise, Ford gave GM a run on this. Buy a Pinto and get a free, built-in immolation kit built into the trunk. To activate, just ram Pinto in the rearend! :D LOL

Discovered this picture in an antique shop while at the Stray Kat 500 last weekend. On the back is written "Loading trees on truck". I thought it was a cool shot.

  21. They're the only ones I found so far - here's a few more I might've posted several months ago (sorry if they're dupes) - can't remember for sure tho':
(PHOTOS REMOVED - shown in duplicate posts)

Looks like they were taken in '58. I've still got boxes and boxes of old slides from her grandparents to go thru. Probably won't get back to them now until next winter. Hoping to find some more old car photos.

Regarding vegas beng made of compressed rust. I believe this is a misplaced theory. Bega body panels were made of two oieces of thin sheet metal bonded together with an "Advanced Adhesive" What the adhesive advaced was corrosion from the inside out as it proved itself to be hydroscopic.

My borhter had one and had a accident in it. he described that the incident was the result of going north headed west in the southbound lane which was occupied by a pickup truck. I picked him up from the emergency room where hew was treated and released with bumps, bruised and some cuts from broken glass. He wanted to go by twhere the car had ben towed to retrieve some persoal items on the way home. When we got to the place I looked at the car and then looked at him and wondered how he could be breathig on his own much less standing there picking stuff out of what was left of that pos vega.

The truck impacted the passenger side of the car which was crushed all the way through the center tunnel, what saved him was that the driver's door bowed out so far, it created enough space for him to survive in, even though the drivers seat was about half as wide as installed. Very fortunate he had just dropped of his Roommate at his house because there surely was no room for two people.
