SBC guys - Flexplate required for 67 283 to T350 trans

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rat bastad, May 12, 2011.

  1. Hey guys Im in the middle of collecting parts to do this swap.

I know the 283 SBC is internally balanced so which flexplate do I need to allow a std/very mild convertor to bolt up along with an aftermarket mini starter?

Id prefer an quality SFI flexplate.

Any tips would be great thanx !!

The std. 350 Chevy flexplate will work fine. I've got one behind my 1967 327 with a TH350.

How many bolt holes in that mini starter. Because theres 2 sizes of flywheels 153 tooth small and 168 tooth large.

  4. The one Im scoping has 4 bolt holes....2 for 153 tooth mounting ans 2 for 168.

    So its a multifit.

I just replaced mine while apart due to a crack...Mine used the 153 tooth (part# Z-114)

I'd go with 168 tooth then. Small cubes and big wheel, it'll spin real easy that way. Hell no matter the cubes I'd always go 168 tooth.

  7. Thanx guys - what diameter should it be for a T350 ?

    Is 11" OD Ok ?

Either size will work. There no converter to flywheel match up on this application. I have used both sizes on T350 and so did GM.

  9. Thanx for the heads up JG !!

There is no 11" flexplate, the 153 tooth is just under 13 " and the 168 tooth is just over 14".
