That's a Harry Miller/ Tucker special. Yes, they were the first r/e cars at Indy, 4wd to boot. I believe the last time one qualified was in 1947.

Thanks to many of you for all of the help. Finally used a standarrd, three jawed puller and a rose bud torch, the hub shot right off - literally. Hub, puller and all, shot right past the hub bolt and off the table and on to the floor (bent a drive pin). We had been warned not to stand behind the hub! On other hub we used the hub bolt and the big washer, came loose the same as the other, but only moved a slight distance.

Now, I assume the bearing carriers are pressed on to the hubs? Plan to press them off tomorrow. Anyone have any extra drive pins or know where to get them? Need at least one long one.

Here's the best shots I could come up with of Josh's handywork from the turn 2 mounds using my cheap Kodak, unable to see a thing on the screen 'cause of the glare. Point, pan, hope for the best. How'd you guys get pit creds?

What a perfect day at the Speedway but why no food vendors were open. Millers were Awsome and the cars got some good speed to get the pipes sounding good. Sure would have like to heard some more speed from the Novi. My first time to see one run since 1964.....Next wk. end @ Washington Court House, Oh. Offys on the 1/2 mile with the AARA vintage cars and a street rod show included. ALL FREE

Butch, I don't want to complain, I am glad they had what they did BUT, I don't understand why they kept it pretty much a secret, I was looking for info and couldn't find anything out, if I hadn't known people involved I would have assumed it was on the Thurday and Friday before the race like always. I sure think people would have liked to see the vintage stuff run, and I don't think it would have been to much to ask for them to open ONE concession stand. Again I am glad the cars got to run, everyone there had a great time, but I'd like to see it better publicized etc

If you have access to a lathe you can make drive pins out of appropriately sized allen head bolts. The ones that are meant for use in die construction that have a shank that is larger than the thread are what you need. Be sure to leave the female hex at the end of the bolt in place - makes installation much easier.

You are 100% right and why was it not open to the public. I don't think the Hulman girls could pull off a 1 car funeral without friggin it up. I just heard about a different qualifying format. Let's throw out tradition on the 100th anniversary. Sounds like something Obama would do!!!

That's why I love this thread. Why didn't I think of that. The wealth of information, both historical and technical, on this thread is mind boggling. Rear end is apart and ready for clean up and rebuild.
Thanks again to many of you.

NOTE: I too have some "White Front" memories. Some I would rather forget, but they are burnt into my memory forever.

Many thanks for this post of the link. . It was good to see that the boys from Eastern Washington got some tracktime with the Northwest built #21 '67 Rolla Vollstedt car. A just completed restoration of Jim Clarks last Indy car ride.
