I had to back out on El Mirage, cause I had the truck all apart, and didn't think I would get it back together in time.
I bought a stock front axle,so I could raise it up,cause I didn't like the way it looked and handled. Tires rubbed and stuff was hitting.
I took some measurements and got to it.

    Here's a before pic...

    After I got the drop-axle off,I put them together to compare. There's a 3" difference,which is perfect!

Here's the after pic...sits level now.

Also....here's the steering wheel that StudebakerDave found for me(from a fellow HAMBer). I had given JustplainJ my other one to put on his '34,so i've been looking for another one. LimeySteve let me borrow a hub,so I could run a wheel til I found a replacement. I'll be dropping that by real soon,Steve. Thanks alot buddy!!!

Thanks Chadillac! It's my daily driver,so I'm trying to make it as comfy as possible. I plan on putting some bigger tires on the rear, when they wear out, maybe some 7.50's. Right now it has 6.00's all around.

Okay Bob I'm going to ask. 38? 39 inside door panels, grill, and hood ornament? School me brother.

Looks good a few inches up. Lot easier to work under too!

The next on the agenda will be the side boards. These belong to my friend,Craig Wise(CW's40tpu). They were Jot Hornes!!!! Mine will have BONNEVILLE,on the low section, and El Mirage on the higher section, with my cell# in the middle.

I don't much history on the truck, besides the many trips it made to Bonneville. The grill IS a '39,but the truck is a '38. I might look for a '38,but they're pretty expensive. Didn't know there was a difference between '38 and '39 doorpanels and the hood ornament.

They are both interchangeable 38-39, with small differences. Great truck and history (bonneville)!

Just no steel door panels on the 38.

I may get the story wrong, but what I understand is....Craigs older brother bought Jot Hornes truck with the side boards on. He took them off and put them up in the rafters in the garage,(long time ago)where they stayed til his dad p***ed away. He found them when he was cleaning out the garage. He has a picture with Jot holding one of them. Maybe he'll post it.

I still have it,but it would'nt fit. The column is a key-way and the Banjo is a tapered spline. KiwiSteve told me it was a Jaguar wheel. I'll probably sell it at LARS.

  24. You're better off with a stock axle instead of the dropped axle. A lot of people don't realize that lowering the front end changes the caster setting, and your truck will hold a straight line going down the road a lot better with the stock axle. PM me if you want to know all of the little differences between '38 and '39. These trucks are over 70 years old and have had many repairs with salvage yard parts, little wonder than many of them end up with a mix of '38 and '39 parts.

I was trying to be a wise-*** Bob.....as in it looked so good before! Although 7.50s out back should put it back in the ballpark!
