He said he was very serious about the street racing and was going thru the engine and wanted to upgrade the cam ect.....He had the block cleaned and the crank checked and polished, the crank is still in the box and tagged by Gellner a local go fast shop that is still building today.....Problem is this stuff has been sitting ungreased or oiled for over 40 yrs....He did run headers on this car but thinks he has the stock manifolds still, I did see the 409 headers in the garage along w/ two rat motors covered up next to the car itself....Littleman

  2. I was at an auction recently where a very rough, rusted '62 Impala "409" body only, laying on the ground, with no chassis, no drive train, no title and only a partial interior sold for $3,000. and the guy claimed he already had it sold for $6,000.
The car you're looking at, if it is in fact a real 409 car, is worth every bit of $15,000. as is, period!

Buy it! restore it and sell for a profit.. Who knows! Maybe you'd be able to afford that home you've been dreaming about for your family...

  4. Remember that light weight Pontiac that was found and bought cheap? Same deal just not as rare....easily a 10 grand project car as long as the rear diff, trans and block are the numbers matching parts. The small stuff can be found but it's the original VIN number stamped parts that have to be there.

  7. Littleman - about ten years ago, I was in TX on business and found a real nice 62 Impala 2dr Hdtp, white with red interior, 283, PG, PS, Chevy dealer-installed under dash A/C. The back seat looked like it had never been sat on and the front bench seat, although the driver's seat had some threads splitting, was in great shape. The front bumper/grille had some very light damage and there was a light crease down the driver's door and into the rear quarter. I don't remember the exact mileage, but it was no more that 50K. It was running and driving. It had been owned by an elderly couple, hence the slight damage. I also wanted it as a family cruiser as my coupe doesn't hold the whole family. I started my offers out small and worked my way up to $4.5K where I stopped. I was told afterward that $7-7.5K probably wud have bought it. That was a good ten years ago and it was basically a plain Jane mom & pop car. Compare that with what you're looking at. That '62 409 was the baddest thing on the street in '62! Like the song sez... "nothing can catch her" and like others have said on here, it is the holy grail. Hope you can land 'er!!! Please keep us clued in.

  11. Go to the guy carrying lots of $100 bills, up to $15K. Offer him half of the money and work your way up, if you need to.

Can someone explain why its a good idea to spend 15 grand on a pile of parts granted, that came frrom the rare same car. when theres perfect drivers for 20,000 more.

Isint it going to cost more that 20,000 , Yes include labor to get that 15k pile back on the road. (15+20=35) And another 40 for a frame off resotration? Thats 75k cash wrapped up to make 6gs .

Why is that a good deal? school me

that car is probably worth 25K when done.

  19. All kidding aside, I would seriously try to buy this vehicle. Hard to find one of this nature these days. Given the condition of the car I would say 7500 would be tops. Needs a lot of restoration to get to the point of being worth 30 grand. Of course, you could part it out and get a good return but I can see no reason to do that to this find. I have plenty of 409 friends in Ohio that would be interested in this if you want to pass on it.

$25,000 when done? No offense but you talk like you've been living under a rock for a while, unless your just kidding. I didn't see any smiley faces though, so I guess you were serious.......................Restored 409's were that much money 8 years ago.

  21. And this is a dual quad 409!!!!

don't part it out, don't put a 283 in it (seriously people?).

Buy it, and decide whether you have the ability, time, etc. to do a SERIOUS, HIGH-END restoration to it, and sell it to someone who does if you don't.

I know this is a custom site, but if there every was a car that deserved to be kept original and as it came, this is it. This is THE most desireable options of one of the the most desirable years, with it all there and numbers matching and low mileage. The only way you could make a more valuable car in terms of configuration would be to make it a convertible or maybe change the paint colour. This is NOT the car to turn into a cruiser for your family to bomb around in. If you want that, trade down for a mint smallblock impala and several thousand in cash and drive that. This is about as sought after a package as there is remaining in any barn in north america.

I agree with those who said if you get the car, try to get everything in the garage, including the top inch of dirt on the floor, to assure that you have every original part of the car.

I disagree with those talking about a restoration though. If this car would clean up, even half-assed, I'd leave it that way. It's only original once, and there are very few survivors left. Plus, I don't think it's any less valuable that way, why spend the time and money to undo what's there.

  29. My guess would be a 8 to 10K as is as long as everything is there.

I have a 62 SS with a 327 and it's far from perfect and worth every penny of 15K as is and 20+ after it is done up right.

Littleman has the ability to do all the restoration work himself (although he'd probably be tempted to go gasser style). Worth 25 to 30K when done. There are very few cars out there that have as many reproduction parts made for them than a 62 Chev.

I am hoping to meet the folks here who say 2500 or 3000. I want to buy whatever you've got!!
