I love custom 34's , To mimic the one D ROD has pictured above would be a perfect way to rebirth your streetrod ...

I had always thought of '35-'36 as the very earliest body for a Ford custom, but this is a very nice look. I noticed that in your #3 pic that the base of the rear roofline was kicked out a bit, not quite matching the slanting lines on the lower side profile, but enough to add some visual interest. Different is good in this case.

Anyone with a Westerguard (sp?) version of a 33-34 roadster, because the coupe version just doesn't work for me. That rear roofline on #3 looks like shi.....ummm..bad.

    Big time disagree there.

Pic #3 is the only way to go.

I like #3. Study some of Westergard's work and get some inspiration from that.

IMO some rubber on the running boards would help too.

#3 is it for me - l really like the look and "feel" the car seems to portray but I can see how it would not be everyone's cup of tea.

34's should be HOT RODs only.

I love the concept of 3, but it's been lengthend. This gives it a coach built look with something like a straight eight under the hood. That's not a bad thing, just lots of time and money to execute. The real '34 posted by D Rod from Rikster's files is the real deal. Very cool.

I like the idea. The good part of the deal is that outside getting rid of the flames most of it is just changing wheels, adjusting the rear suspension and adding the skirts. It will need the proper bumpers but that shouldn't be hard to carry off.
Outside of redoing the paint and a really good detail guy might be able to buff the flames off if they aren't under the clear coat most of the rest of the changes could be done in a weekend or fairly easily over a week of evenings in the garage.

Some of the guys who throw out that a 34 can only be built one way need to lighten up a bit. But I catch that same kind of **** with my 48 so it seems to be universal.

#3 is the best. Have you thought about eliminating the flames all together?

Yea, every custom needs some chrome chamber pots hung on the cowl to ****** up the lines...

The skirts are a *****in idea and clearly out of the box in any time period. It gives the car a more "mature" look, maybe? Something someone of means may have done to create that air of individuality. Today many of our members are hung up on "taildraggers" and that's not really the case here.

The sample from Rikster/Drod has a lot going on to pull it all together. 40-41 Lincoln front bumper, no mascot/rad cap, what looks like Cadillac or another GM set of hood vents, sinister chop, and flipper caps that also seem to emulate the larger Caddy's of the time. Also notice that skirt goes over the fender vs a precision fit inside. The only way to go IMO. The best thing about a 34 Ford is that it can go in any direction from custom to kustom to racer to hotrod. Almost as well as a 36

I am a stone cold hot rod guy and normally would never discuss skirts other than on shapely women, but you have got something going here! That Rodder's Journal article this time that Curbspeed referenced hooked me, then this. Do it like the picture of the coupe that Rikster posted, NO FLAMES, no change to the roof line, AND FOR GOD'S SAKE NO APPLETONS... Oh, dig the '36 Chev hood sides on the photographed car... Do that to your too! One last thought - don't go too low in the rear... Just level it out. Don't want to look too corn belt ya know!

  30. The rake in #1 uis good I don't care for the wheels and those headlights have got to go.

The model 40 in my mind doesn't lend itself well to custom tail dragging. A wheel and headlight change will get you started in the right direction.

Remember steel wheels on a street rod does not make it traditional but it is a step in the right direction.

I like the stance of #1 real well but I guess that is because I am a hot rodder and not a custom afficionado.
