My Newport wasn't exactly considered the coolest car in the world when it came out-more of an old lady's car than anything cool. With all the right stuff done to it now though, it gets more attention than most the cars I've had.....

  3. Come on you guys...get off the fourdoors...that what this is all about....You should drive my 39 and listen to the 97's and the duals....SWEET! Besides, fourdoor owners tend to be big and mean sometime...and we'll beat the tar out of you....LOL Didn't you ever hear that coupes are for chickens???...Thats why I have both...and Wagons are very Kool!!

'63 Newport mordor here, and I love it. Plenty of potential.

As for cars I wouldn't be caught dead in? Japanese cars and SUVs. I'd rather walk.

    A mustang. Any mustang

  6. they are actualy pretty nice for a daily, get okay milage, have a lot of power (the v8 with a manual) and are FORD.

  7. With enough talent, ingenuity, creativity, and (in most cases) money, I honestly believe anything, ANYTHING can be made into something "cool."

There aren't a whole lot of cars I dont like but case in point I HATED AMC Eagles for the longest time, HATED them and would never be seen near one, in one, around one, whatever. Then I ran into a guy who just went to town on his and made it into something that I actually had to stand back and say "dammit, this thing is actually pretty cool!"

    Everything has potential.

I drove a Metropolitan rag top in high school so I lost my what I'll drive or ride in pride a long time ago.

I was lucky as my dad and then my stepfather always seemed to pick fairly cool cars to buy when I was a kid. Dad's Black 57 Olds Super 88 4 door ht with the J-2 engine was about as cool as it could get for a 15 year old to ride shotgun in.

ANY type of minivan. I hate those damn things and am of the opinion any man who tells you he likes them has been effectively castrated by his wife.

I think they should offer paper sacks for the husband when they sell them so his buddies won't be able to see him drive it.

  12. AMC Pacer (turd on wheels) now watch... some H.A.M.B. member has one customized or rodded and this will piss em off. also anything with a trash can exhaust sticking out the ass end :(.

when will people get over the stipulation that 4 doors is a bad thing? The entire "idea" is as non traditional as rust and primer being the "norm" on a hot rod.

Our 4 door was in nice shape in terms of rust and metal but it was hammered when we bought it. it was ratty looking but fun to drive around in the way it was. that car, being a four door, got more attention than the 57' chevy's, coupes, roadsters, etc at the shows we took it to. it literally had a herd of people around it.

When we leave it parked outside at the shop; or inside...customers and passer-by people are always raving over how much they love the car- "traditional hotrodders or not". Last I knew; 4 doors were traditionally rodded back in the day whether folks on the HAMB want to admit it or not.

Now i'm not looking to start an argument since this isnt the thread to be doing so but at the same time it irks me. People on here rave "tradition" and "looks" and what is not acceptable but yet you bring that 4 door to a car show and everyone in attendance proves what is said...wrong; and at the point the car was bone stock.

Its the same story as farmergal. I routinely have people go nuts over that car.... the whole time telling me how they wouldnt have been caught dead in one 50 years ago. All while smiling from ear to ear.

I think if you had told me ten years ago I would be a proud Edsel owner I would have told you to F O, I wouldnt be caught dead in one. But here I am, proud owner.

    I agree on Mustangs, too.

Funny I feel the same way about Camaro's.

  23. I was actually refering to cars you wouldn't want to drive "back in the day" but you would drive now! For instance; I had a '61 Ford two door wagon back around '67-'68 that had no "cool" factor whatsoever, but I would love to have one now.

Never the less; some cars have been mentioned, that I still wouldn't want to be seen in!

I hate driving my wife's Honda CRV!

I would take a '58 Edsel (especially Drugasm's!) any day of the week. Come to think of it, I would rather have a '58 Edsel over a '58 Impala!

  30. Sorry, have to disagree. 4 doors were what your mother had, or your dad if he wasn't cool. No one wanted to get caught dead cruising around in a 4 door - ever! That was the real deal then. Sorry if it doesn't fit someones rose colored glasses memory of the 50's or 60's - but it was the way it was. The only time you saw someone fixing up a four door was the local geek who thought he could make it acceptable he couldn't and everyone laughed at him. You only drove a four door when you had to drive mom's car but you knew you weren't cool doing it. Man, there were times we'd consider walking or riding with a buddy instead of taking the four door gramma car. And that's the way it was.
And you can't really judge what happens when you bring an old car to a public car show today and a crowd of John Q Publics is drawn to it. Half have no clue what they are looking at in the first place. If they did, there wouldn't be big crowd's around Rodent Rods and other abortions.
Remember, just cuz it's old, doesn't make it cool.
