Things change with time. In the early '60's, dad's car was a 50's Morris Minor convertible. Just about everybody had full size Detroit iron in their driveway. That's what I wanted us to have too. having the Morris now would be cool. Black with burgundy interior & a canvas coloured top; yeah.

the cop car comment was funny.
I dont mind 4doors, not tuners if done w/ restraint, what i would be extremley embarassed to be seen in would be a Prius for sure or a pastel colored boyd wheeled street rod w/ 90s style graphics on its side.
That would be total diggin my own ditch experience.

Bob mate, im totally w/ you, but i think ya know already.

Who said vintage japanese cars are ugly i think he doesnt know what hes talkin about.
After this i'll pan out, but how can these be called ugly????
We all have diffrent tastes, to like certain imports or non american old cars doesnt mean to beclueless, its just being more open minded.

While i agree on the part that four doors were mainly family cars; no one on here can deny that 4 doors were not hot rodded and well respected and award winning cars. Sure; they may not be everyone's cup of tea but in the same boat; there were quite a few TRADITIONAL hot rod four doors back in the day. Maybe in the area that you grew up; the 4 doors were not as well-liked but it really all depends and what one person experienced in one place may be completely different than what another experienced somewhere else.

Ive had countless folks here on the HAMB who were actually a part of "the good ol' days" tell me to be proud of our 4 door because it is in fact traditional and they were in fact hot rodded back in the day.

And just because our four door is on display at a car show with a herd of people around it doesnt mean that it only attracts a bunch of know-nothing public people who just think its cool, because its old. I'm sorry but you are horribly wrong. We've had traditional hot rodders who have seen the car in person in its current unfinished state loving the car. Maybe its because we took pride in our work and gave the 4 door the treatment most 4 doors dont get. time, pride, and hard work to produce an awsome looking car thats appealing to the eye but not over the top. We know the car isn't worth much so we did subtle thing like shaved the doors to give it a cleaner look and dropped it down a little. Maybe it attracts people because its not something you see....at all anymore. It was never a high end type of car and yes youre right, they were advertised as family cars back in the day. But i will tell you this, i like the longer, stretched out look of the 4 door compared to the 2 door plymouths of its time.

While i understand that roadsters, 57 chevys, coupes, pick-ups, etc, etc are the "norm" and what everyone likes....i like them too....but I think a four door can make just as nice of a hot rod as a 2 door.

Now for those naysayers who say 4 doors wern't hot rodded back in the day need to take a look at French's 4 door plymouth that put a lot of 2 doors at the shows it attended...to shame

I dunno. I can have fun in any car, whether it's "cool" or not. A girl I used to date had an 87 Chevy Nova hatchback and I had a lot of fun driving that little turd around!! I had a 1980 Mercury Zephyr with a straight 6 that would barely do the speed limit, but I could just smash it into things and not care. I don't mind the imports too much. I know some guys with some nasty little Hondas (how does 600hp TO THE TIRES and 140mph trap speeds sound?). The last generation Toyota Supras are pretty bad ass. AWD turbo cars are fun as hell. I had a 05 Subaru Forester XT (turbo wagon) with a 5 speed and a 4.44 final drive ratio. It would snap your neck on a 5k launch.

Anyway, before I stray too far OT, not really much of anything I'd be "ashamed" to ride around in, as long as it's road worthy.

I think the early ones are cool ('67-'69)... As long as they're not slammed, turned into a pro-mod (YUCK!), resto-mod er whatever you want to call it. I always liked the stock look on those...

dont have a pic but ugly as sin
    mid 80s 4 door reliant..ugh

except for that one that showed up
    with a built 440 tubbed !!
    even that was cool !!

  23. A "Smart" car. There's nothing smart about them. Prius sounds like some sort of STD or a feminine hygiene product.
There was a time that even two door post cars were not cool to be seen in, never mind the more doors, although more door hard tops were OK. Now anything that's made of real steel is OK.

    The Vaccumetski Physhka! (sucking fish)

Despite the desmodromic valve train and alluring red finish,
I could not put my bottom in this hemorrhoid on wheels.

    Delightfully awful!
