Same thing! tried a straight razor, went black, would not come off without sanding it off which i couldnt get to all parts. kinda ruined that razor. made me not want to try it again. from the vids on youtube the cruds just meant to wash off.

Heres a link I had on electrolysis. might aswell just use naval jelly, ive seen that work wonders.

Be prepared to use a heat gun to dry it and some primer to prime it cause it'll flash rust fast after a vinegar bath!!! I do all my stuff like that... you'll probably have to grab a wire brush to knock the chunks off though, also it will eat the paint, I've done several license plates this way!!

Cool how the bubbles duplicate the part on the top of the vinegar!!!

    Ok, you asked for it...

    The*****-Fugging-Ugly-Gasser

Ever felt sorry for a car? I did when I saw this...had to have it just to play with. Seems it was owned by a hamb'r, Gasserdriver outta Oklahoma City. It was raced in the '70's. I'm trying to get some history on it...if anyone knows anything about it, chime in.

It's got a 351 Windsor/FMX*******...it actually runs very good. The brakes need work, and the water pump squeals, and did I mention how UGLY it is? It has a siren under the hood...

I especially like the sun roof, hood scoop and air cleaner...snazzy.

I wonder if you could set up an immersion pump (probably need a filter or silt trap too) to circulate the liquid and keep everything wet.

If you had a big piece, you could build an enclosure and use the spray to keep everything wet and recirculate it so you wouldn't need hundreds of gallons of liquid. Sort of like a giant dishwasher with a spray bar at the top.

I'm not sure what kind of chemical byproducts this produces though, that could be a problem if it was flammable and not vented somehow.

That '56 needed adopting, all right. Hood scoop is all I see 'wrong', but the 'reverse-teardrop' type is 6 years out of era.
Actually, scoops like this one were quite popular at Fremont Drag Strip in the 'Gasser War Years'. Saw a lot of 'em on the street, too.

    They ran "P-Gas". (Poseur Gasser)

The plaid on the front seats is a keeper. You've gotta redo the whole interior that way.

I'm following along on the wheel in the vinegar bath but I think I would have experimented with something small in a small quantity of the stuff first before moving on to wheels.
As for the little Ford Gasser, it's seldom one sees a car that needs a sandpaper party as much as that one does. This is probably one time around that even the********** patina fanatics will relent and say lets sand it down and do it right.

  14. I thought you ment you took a bath. I was gonna say "OH larry your skin is so soft. But what's that smell?" :D

Actually, except for those (3) things and maybe the seats (all easy fixes along with the pump), it kind of looks pretty bad**** to me.

I think all that gasser needs is to hook up that heater blower as a supercharger. Except for the hood scoop that car rocks.

It wont evaporate if you use a lidded rubbermaid type tote.

Pump to circulate-or just spray over parts would increase the spee of reaction, but the pump/tubing would have to be able to handle the acidity.

Not sure as to the chemical nature of the reaction products here. Someone grab a textbook....

    BITCHIN GASSER!!!!

You can get vinegar much cheaper at Costco or Sam's Club.

I've been doing this trick since reading about it on the HAMB a few months ago. The vinegar can be re-used several times and when it seems ineffective I dump in some baking soda to neutralize the acid in the vinegar. I dumped the first batch on some weeds in the corner and it didn't even have any effect so I guess its harmless.

^ It's a great weed killer if you don't neutralize it.;)

You might try a photography supply shop. I know that "fixer" for film developing is acetic acid which is vinegar, only not diluted with water like the grocery store white vinegar. With everything going digital, it might not be available in 5 gal jugs like it used to be.

Like the starving vulture said..."Patience my****, I'm gonna kill something".

After 42 hours of this*****, I couldn't wait any longer, so I went down to Advanced Auto Parts and bought some small brushes...I used the soft bristled brass one.

    Ok, I'm officially amazed...

Another sucessful experiment! Thanks Larry! Now all I need is something big enough to drop my F-1 frame in...

Anyone got a pool their not using? OH, a lap pool with circulating jets would be perfect!
