Inspiring project. Hope to see you go fast soon.

  2. No fenderwell headers alowed in this class. Inner fenders need to be intact.

  4. Been a little under the weather the last couple of days and working hard to get Elwood ready for Eagle Field but we did manage to get the header for the other side done and a scatter shield made. Still waiting on tubing for the cage but I'm told it's on the way.

For those who want to know the primaries (1 3/4") came out 25 - 29" and I will be running 18" extentions on the 3" collectors.

Man, this is coming together very nicely!

  6. Still a lot of work to do. I did send in my entry form for Speedweek last week so we plan on being there. ;)

When do we get to see a video of how the headers sound???

  8. May not be till the cage is done and I have it back home, but don't worry there will be video. ;)

  9. Cool build, loved the yellow one, the fleetside should be good for a few mph.

I'm surprised that the production rules allow for stretching the wheelbase, though looking in the rulebook I couldn't see any line that said you couldn't.

  10. Not stretching, just relocating. :)

Looking good! You're going to need a snorkel on that thing to run at Bonneville, this year.

I noticed something in one of your videos that I watched a while ago but want to mention now. It looks like you have a fuel shut off valve inside the cab of the truck. I believe the rules have been updated to prohibit ANY fuel lines (hard or flexible) into the driver's compartment (unless you have prior approval from the tech committee).

    Just a heads-up...

BTW a mechanical shutoff isn't required for a carb running off an electric pump so long as you have a switch that can turn the pump off.

Don't kill the messenger! But... there's a TON of water out there. A guy in the Utah group just passed by and said it (the H20) went all the way to the truck stop. Milkweed went by and said it was so windy there were waves.

Tman... it's not too late to switch to an outboard. :D

  15. I do have that mint 1955 Johnson outboard..................wonder if I am legal in the Vintage engine class?!

Jeez Brent, I though you meant one of these:

    Not one of these:

  18. That has been taken care of. Just a misunderstanding, thought it was required although redundant, cleared up by Kiwi Steve.

Charlie had this type valve in the Brick.

In your video I was looking at the driver side exhaust manifold, is that a piece you made or purchased? I'd like to have one like that for my daughters '64.

  20. Those are just car manifolds turned backwards to dump out the front. Couldn't go out the back cause of the steering box.

  22. Lance, I hope to be there at least for an inspection. My cage builder says we can knock out the cage pretty quick when we get the tubing but it's still not here yet.

  23. Finally got the tubing on Friday! We were waiting for 1 5/8" .134" wall mild steel for the last three weeks, found out that is was quite literally on slow boat from China. By last Tues. we had had enough and looked around at different suppliers, The short story is we found another place that sold us .095" wall chromoly for $.25 more a foot than the other stuff and it's made in the USA. ;) Wish we would have went to this place first. Oh well we have got a cage started now and with a little work there should be something to show the tech guys at El Mirage in two weeks.

  24. Was the .134 wall suggested by a builder? Tech person? I like the fact it would be beefier than spec. I am buying cage tubing this week so that is why I ask.

I REALLY want 1 3/4 .120wall but we do not have a Hausefeldt die that size!

    Cage is looking good Tim!

Uber cool, man I love those unibodys. Thanx for sharing, will stay tuned. ~sololobo~

  26. It's better to go with .134" because the .120" will sometimes sonic test as less and wont pass tech. More of a concern with NHRA than SCTA but why take a chance that they wont pass it after doing all the work. I'm happy that we are using chromoly instead, weight isn't really an issue but it makes for better talk around the camp fire. ;):p

  27. All good points Tim. I also see a point when the spec gets bumped to a higher standard. Would rather go overkill for today because of that. Like in houses the person that says proudly "it is built to code" is really saying, "I built this to the lowest acceptable standard!"

Tman, I have used 1 3/4 mild steel .140 wall and it is some heavy tubing works in my 1 3/4 dies just fine since you need some weight anyway in the car that is one way of getting it in there... just sayin .....

Just found this thread and I really like what I see. That Y-block sounds great, can I ask what the cam specs are?
