Talking about a hood/fender/center section fit/misfit......my 'glass hood was so far off in length as well as curvature over the fenders, it required several cuttings and refits. The rear edge was secured to the cowl (screws and tape) and then cut side to side. The tip of the nose was secured to the center section, and the overall length then 'glassed with an underhood support.....total length increased about 2". Then to attain the over fender/hood curve, pie cuts were made in the sides, and the top surface. The bottom edge of the hood curve was secured to the top edge of the fenders to attain the curve match. And you are correct, an underhood, side to side brace is almost mandatory to stiffen it enough. I bought one from American Gasser and glued/'glassed it in......made a world of difference. I know 'glass cars are not "politically correct" on this forum, but they are available, and in many cases affordable. My steel coupe is fun, but so is the 'glass race car. Build 'em and enjoy 'em, whatever they are. Nice job Langy.......could you make more of a mess in your work area, and show a bunch of tools scattered around......would make me feel a lot better about my work area. Regards......
I won't be so tidy in future mate To be honest the panels are pretty much on the money, just need a little blending & fettling to get them sitting right, I want a lift off hood and a tilting frontend for easier access to the motor. The front lower edge of the hood is a little long i'm sure, just be nice to get it as per a steel original. When i first put this thread up i expected a certain amount of flack from certain quarters but to be honest everyone has been really enthusiastic & positive about the project which has been really nice. I've even recieved a few presents from some nice people on here who have donated old parts to this car, who i'm eternally grateful too.

Anyway made up some mounting brackets and struts and got it fitted. Been playing with hinges for the trunklid and suddenly thought "I don't need these, they are just extra weight" So i decided to put all the removable panels on pins. First job was to make up the tabs for mounting the pins on, i used the offcuts from the old firewall and beefed them up with 3 extra layers of matt & resin, nice and thick. These were held to the trunk gutter with 2 small screws for each corner after 3 layers of matt were applied, then a piece of wood was clamped to them to keep them in line. then any gaps were filled with chopped matt and resin. Next i needed pins, I could of bought some but i realy wanted stainless so i used 10mm stainless bolts and cut the heads off them and shaped the ends by spinning them in a drill and shaping with a soft disc in an angle grinder. I then drilled the holes for the clips and then gave them a quick polish. All 4 fitted to the shell The round plates were holesaw offcuts from my 26T project, I'm glad i didn't throw them away now. 3mm Mounting hoes were drilled and countersunk machine screws used with nylok nuts underneath, stainless R clips came from Ebay.
Langy, Now that is a great simple way to attach the trunk lid. Probably not too much time and money invested. Looks Great ! Dave

Thats lookin pretty nice, I reall like the extensive use of stainless in all of your prjects I've been TIG welder on nothing but stainless for quite some time now so I also enjoy it very much! Just wondering though do you use ainti sieze on all stainless threads? I've have had quite a few cases where anti sieze was not used, removing a stainless nut off of a stainless bolt results in it snapping off. Just wondering how it works out for you in your applications...? Also I have not the slightes clue about fiberglass work.... Just a simple rough up on both pieces, and the resin adheres so well?
Yes lube on the stainless threads is an essential, Even spinning nuts on by hand can introduce galling.
Hey Langy, I had no idea you had another build underway. I just read the thread cover to cover..... very enjoyable. I love your fabrication skills. I'll be following this build to the end now. It must suck having to work outside, but at least you have your English summer now to provide some nicer weather. Keep going.
Hi Oz, Thanks for the kind comments, yep workshop full of customers cars, This one has little in the way of real detail so decided to get most of it done outside, once the basics are done i will get it media blasted and then paint the frame, it will be gloss Black. Havn't fully decided on engine or body colour yet but probably engine & trans Red as i have some paint saved, Body will be a satin either Primer Grey, primer black or Primer Blue, might have to take a poll on the body colour. My good mate the Bigbossman has drawn up the door graphics and is a master signwriter so i'm hoping to get him to do the lettering. The lettering is going to be based on the usual speed shop type of thing but with a twist I think most will expect me to have my company logo on it so i decided to have something quite different.

HRD = Hot Rod Drags! 16th-18th September at Shakespeare Race Way, Stratford Upon Avon. The final blow out of the year where everyone comes and has fun before putting the car away for the winter. Always a great weekend, lots of fun with some quick cars, not so quick cars and exhibition runs. If you are in the UK it is a must, bring your tent! P.

Whoa thats right after Bottrop and I aint missin that for the world we stand on. Have had it planned with the pals since last year I'll see how the funds are after that one. Any or you guys going to Bottrop? But as to when where and how long in the UK.... thats more questions than answers haha I'll be there starting next week, which could last as long as a year or two, and as short as a month I will look into the stuff for sure though! It would be nice to meet some of you guys in the scene out there.
