    Apologies for HAMB blasphemy... but...

If that's REALLY a matching # 15k mile dual quad 409, BUY IT.

Then, if you can save the original interior and original paint, and put it back together, and it's as close to a survivor as possible... That car might bring $50k to the right buyer easily.

Keep it as original as humanly possible, you might be able to make a whole pile of money on that car. There's plenty of info out there on 62 Impalas.

Whatever you pay, it won't be too much. (in the long run)

I can't understand how you guys can be calling something with SS badges a sleeper.

Give your head a shake. Anyone who had the slightest idea of what that car is would give it a wide berth.

    Hey Littleman!

Do I need to buy some more T Shirts so this deal can happen?

Now if you don't want it, you can always sell it to me over here in the Mother Country, I promise I will look after it.....

Looking forward to seeing what you finally get this for.

    Keep us informed Dave.

Mate, in Australia we'd pay $18k+ for that car as it sits. Buy it, you fool.

  11. Seems we need a H.A.M.B loan officer to verify value and quickly write low interest loans in situations like this ... the time spent hagglin here is wasted when a find like this or other potential"lost/found lamb""(HAMB)" is discovered and brought to light..then ""OOOPS" because of (MEMBER )uncertainty....

The head dosent need a shake :). Pretty aware of what it is and the fact that the SS badges are nothing more than a trim option in these early years. It's the 409 below (In the 62's case)the crossed flags that makes it what it is.
Neither of the Impala's i have are SS's, yet both have those numbers on the fenders.
My feeling's on it being a factory sleeper are in comparison to later 60's, early 70's Musclecars by definition.
Strictly my own opinion that means nothing. And honestly, it can be labeled anything anyone wants, it's a unreal find and one that won't be duplicated easily.

Hopefully this post didn't screw Littleman when the guy that owns the car googled it's value and this popped up talking about how much HIS car is worth! ;)

I don't think that I've ever seen value estimates vary so wildly on here before. My opinion is most are underestimating the value considerably......and I'm a tightwad.

My high school car was a '62 Impala SS and I have kept an eye on values for some time, hoping that I may score another one some day.

If this car is as complete as it seems, meaning that all the hard to find 409 and SS parts are present and usable, I think that there are a number of guys who would drop $25K or better on this in a heartbeat.

    As it sits? Yup.

If it's as nice as I suspect under the dist, put back together this could be a $75k car... or more...

  22. LUCKY BASTARD! in my youth the chance to purchase one of these 62's was offered up and with the wiped out quarter panel and lacking skills i passed on a running one that was insurance total only to find out later the person offering already had rear clip for repairing that was included, man i really fucked up!

  23. i dont remember seeing someone post it, so here goes....

only 15,091 impala 2 dr 409 cars were made in 1962. of those, there were 2 engine options.

    1. 380hp 409 w/ single 4 bbl carb
    2. 425hp 409 w/ 2 4 bbl carbs (and touted lightweight valvetrain)

the second option was a big deal in the days due to the 1+bhp per cid motor. tho it wasnt the first car to have this(iirc it was the chrysler 300), it was still relatively new and pretty far out.

this is the motor the beach boys sang about. this is the little old lady from pasedena. this car is worth a ton of dough. if there was a car, in the current "soft" market, that you could get every penny you put into it and then some? this is it.

good luck trying to find similar cars for sale to figure out a going rate. theres just not that many of these. this isnt just any old ss car. imho if it was all done and still not completely perfect its a 40k car easily. this car alone will put your kids through college. the way it sits, if you can get it off the property for anything less than 10k id say you got a steal.

in todays economy/car market theres your thoroughbreds; corvettes, tri five chevys, thunderbirds, mustangs, 34 fords etc

you my friend, have found a unicorn.

  24. As I own one of these I will make a few comments. "Correctness" is the key word when placing a value on these sought after cars. In the Chevy world the big Chevies are some of the most sought after cars, the 62 beach boy version is probably the most popular and are quite common but not all are true 409's. Clones are around and still bring good money. The color combination makes a difference to the collectors. The common combos of white on red, red on red, black on red, are ho hum in some upper circles and the more rare off color combos draw attention and price. Not to downplay this car, it is a diamond in the rough. The history alone is a valuable addition to its dna. White on red is stunning, crisp, and distinct. I did not see the exhaust manifolds in the pics and the correct ones will be tough to find and are expensive, but if that is all that is missing you are still on top. the fact that it is a "barn find" adds value. A local here will be pissed off if someone wipes the dust of a car he has pulled from a garage. Here is my opinion, 12-15K and you are paying all the money for the car but you have secured it, if you don't someone will quickly. Paying any less your a winner. Now, this just me but I would put the car together with a cleaning, keep resto out of the question, do not even paint the engine bright orange, go for a survivor look. to restore is big money and long hours. You will get a lot of attention with the car put back that way. This is where your value for the buck is. A 1000 point show winner is just that, a trophy that sits in the climate controlled garage. The history of the original owner racing the car is right on for you too. He also would appreciate it back to what he remembers. I hope you get this car as it is really a piece of Chevrolets history. Where were you in 62 as they say, well I was eight years old and knew about the 409's then. Today mine is red on red and I really need to finish it this month. Good luck. CGM:)

  26. Off topic but there were a lot of 409's at the Thompson Gasser meet last two years, maybe 40 or more, it would be great to see you out there with this car even just on display. :)

If you close the deal DON'T restore it! Clean it up and put it back together like it was during it's street racing days. It's still worth a bundle like that. Like somebody else said, they're only original once.

From '62 up the SS was a trim package, you coud get one with a 6 banger and PG in '62 and a surprising number of SS's were just that. My old '62 SS was a 283 2 Bbl and PG, It never scared anybody off because it was an SS. The "older" (than me) guys told me you had to look close at the front fenders if you came up against a new 283 Impala SS to make sure there wasn't an extra set of holes from where they pulled the 409 emblems and switched the 327/409 crossed flags to the 283 "V". From '66 through '70 Chevelle "Super Sports" were Big Block only cars but the Impala and Nova SS could still be had with a small block as well.

Thats an SS not a clone and looks very restorable. It's worth big bucks. Don't let it get away.
