yup i know about clearance for racing .i'm just doing a jr stk type clone street car and once i lower the rear a cple inches i will have lots of room wayne
I remember front tire clearance being an issue with the 66-67 Novas and wondered if the Grump had to cut away the lower corner of the front of the wheel opening in the fender. Does look like it in this picture as any tall tire would hit that lower edge. Also remember someone telling me of how they rolled the inner lip on the rear wheel wells by taking a baseball bat and placing it between the tire and the wheel well and moving the car slowly forward and backward to flatten the lip against the inside of the wheel well without having to cut it. I think you could gain an inch or more of clearance.
Hurst shifter ad. When stockers had to row through the gears and many a race was won by being skillful
just a heads up.. i remember the 56 wheel area was a little bigger then 57 so you could get a 56 wheel opening and it would look right
Son of a gun..... all these years - never knew that! I want to keep my wheel opening "57" (with a lil' trim at the front).... but I have a buddy who is gonna appreciate the heads up! Thanks Wayne! Eddie
I never thought about it, but, a 56 had 15 wheels while 57s had a shorter tire on a 14 inch wheel. GM must have made the opening smaller so the tires didn't look like a donut in the opening.
While growing up drooling over my car magazines(still do) the Hurst Shifter ad's were among my favorites. No matter how bad I wanted to get to a certain article I would always slow down/stop at the Hurst 4 speed ad. But strangely enough the article that I was usually in a hurry to get to was... Marv Ripes N/SA "Powerglide" equipped 57 Chevy! Eddie
On my 57 Juniorstocker that I'm racing now (Squirreltown Screamer), I have the M&H 7.0 x 29.0 slicks. There are no clearance problems as you can see in the pics I have submitted. You shouldn't have to trim your fenderwell at all. Any other questions or information you may need, contact me. -Butch
I have been re-reading this Jr, stock site and Im on page 253 now. Great stuff and forgot about some of the great posts. It makes me want to build a clone of a Jr. stocker and go racing at some of the events but they are so far away . Im not interested in running NHRA or IHRA anymore. Just to much grief and money. Oh well back to page 254 and beyond.

Heck with racing, it's too co$tly and not the same atmosphere that once was. Just build one to drive on the street...especially for cruise nights. Pete
Or a mild one that I can do BOTH with when the urge strikes. Lots of driving with some bracket racing thrown in on occasion. Probably just a "Look Alike" with an over drive trans like a 200R4 automatic and use a 350 made to look like a 283/327. Removable decals and lettering. Then again maybe a clone of my old 69 Vette Coupe that I ran in stock back in 70/71 ???? What ever I can come up with will work. I like them ALL. The brand dosent matter.
Go for it X-TECH MAN, don't worry about the atmosphere not being what it once was, when your going down the track you'll have the right atmosphere inside your car! Eddie
Linda told me that the photo was a promo shot for Ford when they started using Hurst shifters as OEM in the Mustangs.
Yep sure am Colesy... this is a new one for me... my collection is growing. Not sure where this was taken. any clue.??
Go for it, X-Tech Man.....I drive mine, go to cruise nights, car shows and race it on occasion. Enjoy all facets of the car...for what it costs. I don't limit myself to any one thing!
Which track do you race at here in Fl. ? Let me know ahead of time when you are going again and I will try to come by and BS with you.
