Been thinking about diamond s***ch interior for my project. Like the contrast to all the rolls and pleats. What era was this pattern most popular? From what year to what year please. Any pics you might have would be appreciated too.

  5. Started in mid 60's but really took off in the late 60's and by the mid 70's it was over. I love the size of the tuck on these Corvette seats.

Belongs to a friend, Model A coupe. Looks like it was built around 1970, give or take a couple of years.

    Diamond tuck rules so hard.
It was the hot ticket for lowriders in the early days when style was more important than show points, b4 the circus interiors began to take over.
Still i think it went through the whole 70s.
I think it startd comin out in the early 60s but some little 50s magazine might prove me wrong, as there was a lot of nice upholstery goin on in the mid to late 50s and i wouldnt be surprised if the diamond tuck started back then.

  9. When it was done and when it was popular are two different thing I think.

In the early '60s you could see it in show rods, and it was popular with performance themed cars and race cars. I am pretty sure that it was done to a point in the '50s also.

it was real popular on into the '70s. But if you are going be when it was done as opposed to when it was popular you could pull off a '50s to early '60s build easily with it.

It was really hot when I was in hi school, 1965-68, and for a number of years afterward. I put it in my '71 Camaro back around 1975, and it's still in there today.
It's starting to show some wear, so I'll have to change it out sometime soon.

There are several different kinds, but the oldest ones had the ****on in the center where the s***ching met; "****on tuck" was a term often used. Very plush looking and hard to get straight, but great looking when it was right. The headliner on my 37 pickup was that way all the way to the bottom behind the seats. I loved it.

Here is 1969 in all it's glory! As a matter of fact we just dusted the car off for a little thing at Edelbrock's two weeks ago. the upholstery still looks new, the paint, not so much.

Old(er) guys feel free to jump in, but what I remember from the little pages is '40s and '50s interiors done in tuck-and-roll, but with inset heel pads (the place on the carpet where your feet actually rest) done in diamond tuck WITHOUT ****ons. Just diamonds.

And, if I'm not mistaken, some guys were doing kick panels in the same non-****on diamond s***ch.

But that was it, way way back ('40s-'50s). Everything else was tuck-and-roll.

    wow this is beautiful!!!

  25. My old 29 had a hand sewn Diamond tuft from the early Sixties...

The top, interior and the running boards were adorned with Diamond Tuft... however when I found it in the barn the running boards were burnt from headers and had evidence of Rodent damage as well.

I still have the bench seat and kick panels which was given back to me from the current owner who decided to go to a set of "Bomber Seats" to accommodate the Roll cage!

This is the only picture of the door panels I have of my 34 coupe. The original owner started but never finished the interior. The seats still need to be covered. I'm going to finish them in diamond also.

I did my first '40 coupe in diamonds in 1968. I took a cl*** at the local JC so I could use their machines. Then did my dads' model A coupe in diamond ****on tufts. I am doing the upholstery in the coupe in my avatar right now. I plan on going diamonds in it also, if nothing else than the nostalgia of being like my first one.
