i've been trying to upload that feature on "psycho" , as well as the fiat bodied car that preceeded it , but they just won't "go" . don't know what the problem is yet , but i'll keep trying . jack
i've managed to post the first page of the "psycho" feature . it's from the july , 1967 issue of "hot rod" . i'll try to post the second page .
this is the second and final page of the "psycho" feature . the small pic at bottom right is from the november , 1981 issue of "hot rod" . sorry to have to post it this way , but this is what's working for me at the moment . i'm taking whatever i can get . i'll try to post the short feature on the fiat , on which the mustang was based . jack
it took a while , but it finally uploaded . here's the fiat . this piece is from the june , 1967 issue of "american rodding" . jack
does anyone remember that mustang exhibition car - the one with that rocket thingie made by turbonique [ sp?] attached to the rear axle ? the company used to advertise this product - tho i can't imagine where there would've been any market for it . the reason i'm asking is i'm thinking that car was also called "orion " .
The only ones I have see are a Chevelle with the dragaxle and a Mustang with a Turbonique supercharger:
Not a mustang... but I saw a vintage Cougar flip top in Buffalo with one of them V-2 rocket things attached to the rear....looked like a nice one way ride.
thanx , muttley . i don't remember the chevy , but then , i really wouldn't care to . but i do recall the "ozark mule" mustang . however , i seem to remember a white fastback mustang with that rocket contraption on the axle . am i "mis-remembering" ?
if you left click on the photo , it will "enlarge" . look at me . ME ... giving computer advice ! i think we've just stepped thru the looking glass . jack
You are thinking of the PEGASUS mustang of Rauth & Venetti. more can be learned here http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/chassis/0512_hrdp_turbonique_drag_axle/photo_01.html
thanx , axle . yes , i believe that's the one . now if we can just find out about "orion" . i seem to remember an "orion" mentioned and shown on an old jackson bros. drag tape , but i can't seem to find that tape . and i don't know if it's the same "orion" . jack
I know, I know....... this is not the thread for this, but I feel compelled to mention the Turbonique rocket car of cars, the Tobacco King. http://www.mecumauction.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=SC0508-65922 Someone tell me; Where is this car today? I've heard in a collection somewhere that can be publicly viewed. Tom S. in Tn.
now THAT"S scary, tom . was that car street driven ? it's obviously set up for drag racing , but there are no graphics at all . and i love those tail pipes...they look like anti-aircraft guns ....hopefully pointed at those wascally chebbys !
Here is a pic you may not have seen before. It is from a preseason promo. package that was sent to Raceway Park.
i knew i'd seen something about this car before , but it took me a while to find it . it's shown 3 or 4 times on an old jackson bros. tape . it was running at half moon bay around 1968 . unfortunately , jackson doesn't say anymore about it other than calling it the orion mustang funny car . maybe it was just a local car , but i'd still like to know who drove it and what engine it used . jack
I found some info about this car on Draglist. It ran SX/S in Division 7.The Poppy Bros. owned it and ran a 427 Ford with a 3-speed trans.
thanx , analog - i was thinking it prob. had a chrysler engine in it because when i enlarge the pic , it looks like it says "torqueflite by" right above the large "LM" on the front fender . i was also thinking it says "peppy bros." on the door . anyway , it's nice to know they stuck with dearborn power . jack
I was thinking the same thing. It definitley says torqueflight by LM,so I thought Hemi also. Can you put a torqueflite behind a 427 Ford?Draglist also stated the trans was a 3-speed manual. Is there a 3-speed manual torqueflight?
Maybe it's a Clutch-flite? FWIW, the Torqueflite in my road runner is a 3-speed manual. No clutch pedal though.
