So my Buick has been down for a while due to starter problems and I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet, but I went out to see if I could get it running again and it turns over like normal but not fast enough to fire, and I noticed that one of the main contacts on the starter would almost instantly get super hot and turn red.. Any input on what's causing this and how I could fix it would be appreciated.
    thanks

Try taking off the cable at that connection to sand/file it clean, then retighten. Bad connection will cause heat.

You also could have problems inside the starter, but do the cable cleaning first.

If it's been red hot many times, the nut could be hard to turn. Try not to break off the stud. :)

You need a new starter solinoid. You may also need to replace the brushes and clean up the armature. While you're in there go ahead and replace the armature bearings. If you can do it your self the parts are cheap, and can be found where ever electric motors are refurbished.

Like stated above try cleaning the contacts of the wires first and check your ground. 90% of auto electrical problems are ground related, loose ground, rusted ground, or no ground.

I think your problem is the starter. The front bushing in starter when worn slows the starting power. If you do it its a $2 fix.
