Hello, my name is John, and today I became the new owner of this 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak. I've had my eye on this exact car for 9 years, and have watched it move twice to different houses in the area. I pulled into the previous owner's driveway last week to ask him about it, and drove it home today. She needs a few parts and some love, but she is now my baby.
I'm going to try to keep it drivable as I work on it, so I'll probably start out by sanding down some of the rusty spots and getting them primed. I want to find the original front and rear bumpers, and the missing grille pieces, as well as the side trim. My end goal for the car is dark paint (maybe just black primer.. we'll see), bright chrome, and wide white wall tires. The interior I want to look as original as possible, so more attention to detail will be paid there. For now, I am keeping the stock drivetrain, and I will drive it that way for a while before deciding if I want to switch it out for a 350. --John
Welcome, please rethink your decision before the black primer and 350. Plenty of those around. Shiny paint and put a Pontiac v8 in there would be much better.
The 350 wouldn't be any time soon. I want to drive it as-is for now and just enjoy it. Even if I end up with shiny paint, I will need to prime it first, so no harm there. Any idea what paint colors were optional in '48? --John
Just found a thread on people running sixes, and I'm sold. I will tweak what's in it, but I'm going to run it as long as possible. --John
