when you shop for plugs look at the boxes. especially with ac delco. they can be made in USA, France or Mexico. the mexico ones are silver like champions instead of black. parts stores could have all three in the same part number. look before you buy. champion plugs can often be found made in USA still, but check the boxes.

I bought a tool from Harbor freight and the package said MADE IN USA in red white and blue. Got my attention, Turned the package over when I got home and it actually said in small print down in the corner (package made in usa) The frigin tool in the package was stamped China.I guess that is what I get for going there in the first place.LOL.

For quite some time there has been a large percentage of their parts made overseas. It's not new, it's been that way since the early 90's

Yep, plugs can differ from part to part. Look before your buy is great advice.

Harley started putting Japanese parts on scooters in the 70s.
I'm not a real big fan of Champion plugs, no matter where they're made.

When I was racing,we were 'on the deal' with Champion. The first thing that their racing co-ordinator gave us was a buzz box. He handed it to me and said "use it...there's a reason why they're in boxes of 10"

Yep, but they didn't do at the rate they do now, I want to say that the early 90's is when it went close to over 50% of the parts made elsewhere. Though they try and skew the percentage by assembling some of the stuff from foreign made parts.

I bought some cut off discs at menards that said they were made in usa. They fit better than the ones from china too. The circle inside is actually 7/8ths.

That's a pretty safe statement, no one was using overseas parts in the 70's like they are now. (G)

Seems to me that they started with frontends, carbs, electronics, and some other stuff back then.

What's wrong with Champion Plugs, I have been using them for the past 12 years, no complaints. What sort of issues have you had?

Yeah, its all backwards now ,Honda has a plant in OHIO and Harley has a plant in Mexico. Its kinda like when our so called for the people Gov. let all the cattle and tomatoes in from Mexico and ruined a lot of U.S. farmers and cattle ranchers business. Its good to always do the research on parts before you buy them.

The world is changing. The world market is a lot more interdependent than it used to be. It's never going to be how it was. I don't think there's any going back, on a large-scale, for the USA.

That made in america logo can be misleading. As long as the item was assembled in the U.S.A. using more than 7 U.S. made parts, the gov't considers it "made in America."
Even for parts made in america, there's a good chance they were made with imported steel.

y'all have a good day, Keith

Actually DELL has plants all around the US(Texas, N and S Carolina etc,) where a lot of their computers and parts are still made.

You better check those facts, they closed the NC plant. And the parts are not made in the US, they are merely assembled here.
