Hi. My name is terd ferguson and I'm a chrome-aholic. Its been three days since I last had parts chromed. Each and every day is a struggle. It feels like I'm fighting a losing battle.

Sure, it starts out innocent enough. I'll just have a couple of parts plated to add some shine. Before you know it, you're stealing money out of your mom's purse to give to the chrome man. Soon, you're a full blown addict. You keep making excuses like "everything else is chromed, it'd be dumb not to have the starter plated".

Then you hit rock bottom. There is nothing else to plate or polish. You're an addict in need of a fix. You're on your hands and knees looking for bolts that will show. There's still that trans dipstick tube. I've been saving that for last resorts. That's when the depression sets in. Oh well. Forced sobriety. For now.

But there's still plenty of stuff to get chromed in the interior...I am and always will be an addict.

This is a photo journey into the ugly faces of chrome addiction...

    Normal engine.

This is the same engine after using chrome (and pearl, but that's another story).

Please talk to your kids about chrome. Its never too early to start educating them about the dangers of chrome plating. Don't let them learn on the streets. That's where it starts. I just pray you can reach out to them before the chrome man catches them.

    ***EDITED TO ADD***

    Blang Blang...

guess what? after looking at the generator, starter and exhaust manifolds...and the choice of engine... you got class. Nothing chainer that I see.

The chrome says you got class.
The pink pearl says you got balls.

    What's the problem here?

Look at it this way, at least no-one will mistake it for a rat rod. As far as gold chainers, hell, they are all paying big $$ for fake patina these days...

The exhaust manifolds too? Yeah, you've got problems alright. You might need a ceramic coat intervention. But, otherwise, looks to be killer.

CHROME is a six letter word that turns into a four letter word RUST. I can buy lots of rattle cans for the cost of one chrome part.

F and Chub, I appreciate that. While I may not be very classy, my pickup is destined to be. At least I hope so. I'm a no talent hack, haha! Thanks.

I can relate....EVERYTHING forward of the firewall on my T-bucket is CHROME...axel, wishbones, calipers, tie-rods, draglink, discs (well, polished S.S.) ALL bolt-on parts on the engine, every bolt, nut and washer, the wire-spoke wheels, the headlight buckets....where DOES it end ??? Don't look at the rear-end....sadly, more of the same.....oh boy....does the polished stainless console count?

  21. Wow, thanks for that stark warning. Due to my lack of funds, I'm lucky I haven't started. I'll have to stick to my rust paint for now. I know if I make one small part look it, it would never end...

The first step of recovery is admitting you have a problem... although I fail to see the problem, and no, I don't have a problem, I can stop anytime I want to!

When they built the Lyndwood rail I'm restoring the only thing they plated were the ALGON injector tubes. Yes, it was real fast in its day. I'm only out $250.00, bet my 354 HEMI rocker covers for the Roadster will cost more.

Surely there's a government program that'll pay my chrome bill...are there any chrome lobbyists in Washington? My car needs some stimulus money...
